GTX 1080 preview and reviews

going to leave the video reviews in the thread instead of copying to the first post.

Not impressed with the 4K results, but the 1080p and 1440p results are rather nice, but I will keep my 980Ti for the time being since I'm on 4K, I'll wait for either NVIDIA's high end successor or AMD's high end cards later on this year.

I see some sites citing 2,304 SPs on the GTX 1070. Not sure where they got that info.
Definitely waiting to see what the 1070 and Polaris can do, meanwhile the custom 1080's will launch around the same time.

REALLY impressed with the stock numbers on the 1080, Nvidia blew away expectations by a mile. June is going to be insane.

Just did a translate on that article, they are just predicting on the 1070

Yeah we're looking at 2,048 SPs I think. 5-10% faster than the 980 Ti based on the 1080.
Really need to see proper OCing on Pascal first.

Computerbase have a nice review:

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 im Test (Seite 7)

They show that the 1080 is around 10% better than an after-market Gigabyte 980ti, and their OC 1080 is around 15% better (all at 4k).

Too bad that they didn't OC the 980ti, but as I haven't seen any other site (only looked at 2/3 reviews though) even include an after-market 980ti, that's at least nice to have.

edit:
Really like the fact that gamespot did a 980ti OC vs. 1080 in their review.

basically ~5% to the stock 1080.

no looking at the 1080, the 1070 looks like it ends up around Titan X

Nice OC in this article.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Review - Page 24

Well that isn’t all that shabby now is it? After more than two hours working on Precision the core was able to hit a constant Boost speed of 2126MHz, representing a pretty shocking 400MHz+ overclock when compared to the standard load results I achieved. The memory got in on the party as well with a decent showing at 5670MHz. This was all accomplished while maintaining a fan speed of 55% which proved to be quiet enough to not disturb gaming sessions.

Most seem to be pulling 20~25% OC which is above average for the stock cooler, I think.
980 Ti was pulling 1250 -> 1450 which is only 16%.

Their performance gains are only 10-15% however. I want to see at least 2250~2300 MHz from the custom models.

Yeah I always take these release OC results with a grain of salt.
