I wasn't able to revive (lol) my 4870 using the oven technique so I'm looking to purchase a used video card.

Please take note, I know the 4870x2 is faster (a bit) than the 285 but I only have a Corsair HX520 as my PSU. Right now the Phenom is at 3.5GHz @ 1.42 and I have two 1TB HDDs. Do you guys still think I should go with a 4870x2?

I ain't upgrading my PSU...not yet. Does the 285 use considerably less power than the 4870x2?

correct me if I'm wrong, but 4870X2's are nearly impossible to find brand new; not to mention that they use something like 280W under full load (considerably more than the GTX 285)

HD 5850 would be a better choice as shiro said, if thats too expensive, 5750 or 5770 are good options as well, or a GTX 260 or 275 perhaps (or wait for prices to drop/Fermi release)

You could pick up a 5770 or gtx 260 for around $150 before tax.

When is that 5830 scheduled to come out? First was Jan 25 and then delayed till Feb 5 and still not out.

Bump. 4890 gets no love since I have a 4870. And just for extra information, my resolution is 2048x1152. I would like to max out (aa/af included) all of my games since I take screenshots of them for my game reviews.

Looks like i need to put a little money back to get one of the new 5000 cards now.

I ran a single 4870x2 with an Antec Earthwatts 650 and I also had my quad at 4.4 back then and a ton of hard drives. Since you only have two hard drives and your phenom probably doesn't use as much power, you might be okay. I did feel like I was near the limits of my 650 when I was using it.

Oh shit, you know what even though it's not related, thanks for reminding me. I had to buy Kill-A-Watt meter at Home Depot.

EDIT: Aight, just got back.

Here's my power usage from the wall (excluding monitor).

Idle - 150w
100% - 250w

That's what I got without a GPU. 4870x2 is a go?
