GTX 470 Dead? GTX 490?

Isn't pci-e spec'd to be 300 watts max?

So 375 watts now is no problem?

I know that we can, and many of us do, take our gear well beyond spec with no problem.
I guess I was under the impression that they had to stay within certain guidelines in order to market it...

375W GTX 490 would indeed be out of spec. I'm not sure if I'm buying this rumor quite yet.

I really don't know what is happening to Nvidias midrange cards. There are too many confusing potential cards 465/460/450?

It's not hard to believe that 470 might be put on the backburner as Nvidia makes its move to compete with ATI's midrange cards - 5850/5830/5770.

In particular the 5770 is crushing Nvidia right now because they have nothing yet in that price range to compete that has DX11 capability.

I don't know if this makes sense as Nvidia likes to have the performance crown for every segment and command that price/brand premium. The 480 beats the 5870, the 470 beats the 5850, and the 465 looks like it should beat the 5830. By discontinuing the 470 (which as been the Fermi volume seller thus far), it would seem like Nvidia is shooting themselves in the foot as they lose the performance segment to the 5850 (doubt the 465 can perform better) and the GTX 465 is priced way too high at $250 to compete with the mainstream segment that is dominated by the HD 5770 right now.

*Edit: Unless.... price drops across the board!! But that's not going to happen.

I was under the impression that the 470 was equal to the 5850 but consumed more power.

In games like Metro 2033 the GTX 470 is better

In games like Crysis Warhead, the 5850 is better.

I would average it out and call them both in the same "tier of performance"
