GUIDE: High Res 27" 2560x1440 Monitors, wuw to know!

Yeah, holy smokes lets get back on topic, there is no reason to flame or chastise Overlord computer in this thread; it's a legitimate business with many happy customers.

The more pressing issue is my black levels!! Lol! I think I may have pretty severe backlight bleeding, I'll take some pictures when I get home, whats the best way to show it? Paint with a black screen?

Just google backlight bleed check and there will somewhere be a convenient tool. When I was checking mine I think I googled "dead pixel check" or similar and it had a tool for BLB as well if I recall correctly.

Of note: AFAIK Overlord has yet to ever deliver a monitor, so don't say "many happy customers". However, I personally believe in their legitimacy, at least until proven otherwise. No reason to doubt it right now.

IPS screens are famous for poor blacks (aka contrast). I'm guessing that all the glossy screens you have seen are IPS. If black depth and contrast is the most important thing to you, I believe *VA (PVA, MVA, S-PVA etc) panels are the best choice, but they have plenty of their own issues.

I'm not an expert on this, so hopefully somebody else can explain.

Also, Jeez that's a lot of drama in this thread. I don't really think I'd trust the opinions of either "noobie 15 days" or "noobie 2 days" very much, to be honest.

That's not it. The matte monitors that can display blacks properly to me have all been IPS too.

I thank everyone for the input. My Apple 30" is 7 years old and i know that it will die soon.
At the prices for 27" 1440p IPS i can relax and wait.
As for the backlight, anyone producing low cost 27" with IPS and LED?
Heat is definitively a problem with my 30" CCFL.
Would 2 GTX 660 drive a triplet of these beasts using only DVI-I?

Did you read the thread at all? this is about a $285 Shipped 27" IPS with LED. Or is that not low cost to you?

All you need are 3 Dual-Link DVI outputs. DVI-I or DVI-D doesn't matter at all. 2 660's would in fact do that. You could also get 1 higher tier card and an active DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI adapter.

Thank you for the help Sn0_Man.
Never wanted to upset anyone with stupid questions, but sometimes it cant be helped. Can't visit ebay at work, later checked and all these korean panels are LED, about 55w.

2 660's are enough:confused:
Great;)

As for the DP adapter, i tend to run away from active DP-to-duallink DVI adapters. Not only the name sounds like porn :p, but these adapters costs US$90 and there are lots of problems with AMD cards using mixed DL-DVI + DPs outputs

It is time to prepare the money: 2 new graphics cards, and 3 new monitors, US$1500 down the drain:cool:

I believe these monitors will force AMD to go back offering 2x DL-DVI ports, missing on the red side since the 5xxx series.
And now cards like the fabled ASUS 4870x2 with 4 DL-DVI ports have a market again:D
Back to topic: i disagree with Gunlex00 recomendation: the best bang for the buck korean 1440 is not the Shimian Lite. The Lite model has tempered glass and no speakers. the next model from Achivea, which costs US$11-25 more, has NO GLASS and integrated speakers:

In some countries the 200v can be a PITA, so look for a 100-240v adapter.

The Shimian does not have tempered glass, unless you chose to get one that has it, mine does not have tempered glass. Where did u read on that listing it has tempered glass lol? I also didnt really want speakers...I have a surround system and a pair of Astro gaming headphones...no need.

Hi Goek1ng,

I was concerned it was going to take a beast of a machine to drive a 2560x1400 display, but much to my surprise, even my aging QX6700 at 3.2 with a GTX 670 can run all my games (Crysis 2, Borderlands 2, Skyrim, Alan Wake) with all details max at more fluid speeds that my old GTX 470 running my 1920x1200 Dell 2405. My Achieva Shimian is hands down the best purchase I have made in years, and I am SOOO happy with this display. Especially after calibrating it with my Spyder 4 Pro. I have had it for about a week now, and I still grin like an idiot whenever I sit down in front of it. It is simply a beautiful display.

Thanks for the guide...Im waiting on the 120hz panels to come back in stock...but you can't be $285...well $305 really, looks like they raised the price.

Not sure what model you're referring to, but i'm seeing $280 shipped for the base model, and $298 shipped for tempered glass.

On Ebay you would do a search for "2560x1440" then sort your results by price.

These monitors are amazing. I've been running mine for about 4 months now (Shimian) and it's performed flawlessly.

So far the Nixeus Vue monitor has a perfect rating on Amazon All 5's is pretty good for a new product. If someone had a beef they would surely post it and gripe to high heaven of how they were ripped off and to be WARE of the product.

Vendors are allowed to delete any review on amazon they want. You cannot trust "no negatives" on amazon.

We published a couple books on amazon for awhile and when we got troll reviews we had them deleted without question.

How about a nice list of models from all the brands, with notes about stand, screen type and inputs?
I am having a hard time navigating the miryad of models, looking for a cheap monitor, without glass and with a stand that has height adjustment or even better, easy to use rotation for portrait mode.

Just picked up one of the Shimians. *crosses fingers* Hopefully I get a good one lol. From what I've seen on these forums everyone seems to be pretty happy with this brand / model.

Are green-sum and dream-seller still well regarded? I know they were a couple of the first to offer.

Somehow green-sum still has 99.5% feedback after all this time.

I ordered a green-sum tempered glass one a few days ago...but of course the mongolian holiday is delaying it :(
I should have it next week and will give my feedback.
