I am using a WD10EARS 1TB HDD off my board's Intel SATA controller, but every few minutes I receive a message that my HDD has been disconnected. Usually 30 seconds later I get a "reconnect" message.

I thought it may have been the hot-swap adapter, so I placed the HDD into a different hot-swap bay. With the different port and adapter I stopped receiving the message for about a week. However, the message has come back. I am very close to RMA'ing this drive.

Any further suggestions?

Look at the SMART to see if the drive thinks it is having problems.

CrystalDiskInfo is a good program on windows to do this.

CrystalDiskInfo reports that the drive is "Good."

The HDD completely stopped responding on the newer hot-swap bay. Swapping it back into the old one got it working again.

plug it strait in without the hot-swap and test.

There is never a SATA cable around when I need it. :(

Luckily, I realized I have a different 1TB drive lying around. I'm going to copy the data over and then see if that drive randomly disconnects.

Try going into Device Manager and disable Write Caching on the drive.
