Dead cpu and/or MB
I ran into this problem once after a bad eletrical storm.
Don't run out and buy anything just yet though, wait to hear from a few others.

Load system bios defaults/clear CMOS if needed.

dead cpu/mobo??? i can still use my OS.... it says "Press F1 to contine".. which i do press to resume to use my OS...

also, what exactly does "Load system bios defaults/clear CMOS if needed." do???

just sets your bios back to the defualts

but you could open your case and see if any of the ide cables came out

I'd say the first message has always been there and you just didn't notice it. It's a common message if you're using an ata66/100/133 device with an old ata33 cable.

The 2nd message is the bios/cmos has screwed up. If the cpu or motherboard weren't working, you'd get no message at all!

So yeah, as people have said, try clearing your bios (see your mobo manual for the jumper), or try turning your pc on whilst holding the Insert key (a common 'reset settings' switch for alot of mobos).

Hope that helps.

ok thanks for the input guys... will reset bios..

*EDIT* well, i set it to its defaults, and now everything is fine... thanks

Uh, no. That's very, very wrong.

Reset the CMOS settings and it should go away. The 80-conductor cable complaint is that you have older 40 conductor IDE cables on your drives. For a possible speed boost you can change them for 80-con. versions for about $4. I'm sure that error was there before this little incident.

Isn't that exactly what I said already?

The answer to the first error is..

one of your High speed Drives are using a low speed cable..

if you look at the cable....you will have one with 40pin/40wire on it pluged into the drive that was giving you an error....change it out for a 40pin/80wire IDE cable.
