Help me weigh my options CPU vs GPU(s)

I am currently stuck between 2 possible purchases:

ATI 2x4850(or a 4850x2 when one comes out that doesn't dump the heat back into the case.)
intel Q9550

Current rig:
E7200 2.533ghz @ 3.8ghz 1.37v (TRUE cooler)
8800gts 512mb @ 790/2050mhz
4gb ddr2 800/1066 @800.
Gigabyte EP45-UD3P

I do a LOT of video editing and rendering and a LOT of gaming. The CPU will help with the former and the GPU will help with the latter. I only game at 1680x1050.

If I got the CPU I would hope to at least get to 3.6ghz if not 4ghz. If I got the 4850s I would likely not overclock them till I hit a game I couldn't play.

DO NOT suggest alternatives as these are my options and only these are my options.

I concur and +1 to this. Why exactly are those two options your ONLY options? I can think of at least three better options than the ones you listed.

I agree, you have to prioritize. I also agree that you should open up your choices more.
