I backed up a dvd to xvid file format. The dvd had 6 channel audio. Would play fine in PowerDVD.

I checked with GSpot first, sure enough it still has the 6 channel audio as an xvid file.

But when I run it with either BSplayer or Windows Media Player.. i just get my front right and front left. Nothing from my center or 2 rear.

My speakers are set up right in software. And in WMP even says 5.1. But I get nothing
Just for fun I played the xvid file in PowerDVD.. and I get 5.1 audio just fine.

Why wont it work in BSplayer or WMP?

System
DFI Lanparty UT Ultra-D
3200+ XP proc
1 gig ram
logitech 530 speakers

Any suggestions?

PS. Why when I convert to xvid do I get really quiet sound. I have to Max out my speakers just to get audible volume.

To backup I am using DVD Decrypter to rip, and AutoGK to convert.

NEVERMIND!!!!

I am an idiot. Everything is working now.

I answered all my questions.

Turns out it was just my ac3 audio settings. Which could not be accessed via my BSplayer for some reason. Nor the current version of WMP. I guess older versions can access the settings.

I just found the shortcut via my startmenu.

Sorry for the redundant post.

you found the sound preset in the AC3 too I hope. by default the volume is set way low. never understood why.
