I just recently upgraded to the new core2duo board listed below and now my p4 is just sitting there. Since I'll only use it to write papers now, I won't need the video card and processor anymore. It was a 2.8b northwood that overclocked relatively well.

I was thinking of giving my brother my cpu and video card. I'm worried whether or not my cpu will pop in simply into his machine though. He has this motherboard:

The chipset says it supports up to 533, which is up to the northwood line. Since his motherboard cpu was purchased as a cheap combo at fry's, is it a risk popping my old 2.8 in? Or should it be an instant recognization?

Thanks in advance!

That board will supoport your 2.8B just fine. Pop it in and put it to good use.
Apply good thermal compund between processor and cooler and it will be a great pick up for him.
