im running a western digital 80 Gb hd. i got it last year around this time of year and never had noise problems but lately ive been getting a pretty noticeable noise coming from the HD. im not sure whats going on. any ideas?
 
From experience, clicking eventually leads to death. A weezing sound shouldn't be a problem. And are you sure the sounds are coming from the hd? Is it loose?
 
an increasing frequency of clicks is a sign that things arent normal
but a "click" is simply the drive recalibrating following a miss
and is normal if infrequent, thermal adjustment is done on the fly (servo bursts) but can lead to the odd miss
