If you're going to have a top of the line PC, like fastest cpu, lots of drives or fast drives and SLI video cards etc etc. you probably need something like at bare minimum a 450 watt power supply, right? with SLI you'll probably need 550 watts. Well I just checked what my electricity costs and its about 15cents kw/h, I keep my PC on 24/7 (550w), and this comes out to about $59.40 a month, which is about $712.00 a year in just electricity to use my PC... electricity is too expensive :(

Its not quite correct. If you are maxing out your PSU 24/7 yes it will cost that. Normal operation is less. My best "guestimate" about this in real-world is about $10-15 / month with 2 low-end systems (1 in use, 1 dedicated email/fw/ids box). Dont forget the monitor usage, add another 100-200 watts to that use as well, unless you allow them to turn off.

You can always hibernate it when you leave it for 1 hour. Saves your tasks and shuts down. Problem solved.
