How to put videos on your new iPod

Don't have a zune, but i think it uses MPEG-4 like the iPod. You should probably use a program made for converting video to Zune. Check out the results from versiontracker. No freeware though.

Hope that helps

jnhsrch, thanks, I will be sure to check it out, but does anyone know of anything that is proven safe? I just don't want to ruin a $250 toy! thanks again jnhsrch, I may have to resort to that. :)

I am converting videos right now with http://www.jodix.com/ just tried this with my zune, converts rather fast, great audio, great video, a few decent options, and it's free!!!!

the one I downloaded was the free-ipod-video-converter

please post back if you do try this program

I'm currently using the cucusoft iPod video converter found earlier in this thread, after trying a few other pieces of software. I will post the results when I get home.

the cucusoft download I found was the only one I could use with ease in ripping one of my DVDs to iPod, which is what I wanted to do in the first place.

EDIT for results: Works pretty good, I converted Analyze This, and very easy to put into iTunes and swap over to my iPod.
However, I need to get the full version to get rid of the watermark "Trial Version" in the center of the movie. I think that may be a future purchase.

It's unfortunate there is no way to install codecs into the ipod. Converting video to put on it and iTunes constant crashing and library errors with the converted video has been a very painful experience and rather put me off Apple.

It's almost as though they expected me to buy any video I wanted to watch off them! Well that wouldn't be fair would it?

This is awful. I realised that iTunes wouldn't take many of the encoded videos (Videora) and that whether it would or not went on whether Quicktime could play the mp4 file.

For one over half the videos I've test encoded (about 50) have "Bad atom" errors and won't play in Quicktime. Quicktime even crashes vista when you try to play bad atom movies a few times (given me a BSOD twice now).

Trying to put videos onto an iPod is extremely labour intensive and convoluted.

Quicktime is such a crock of shit.

thats pretty much exactly what they wanted.

I have successfully decoded many movies with DVD Decrypter and then converted them with Videora, but I cannot get "Crank" to make it through Decrypter. Any suggestions.

I've tried most of the programs mentioned here (cept for Videora which I'm trying now), with various degrees of success on my new iPhone, but all of them give me one issue in particular.

While watching a video, if I skip ahead or back it knocks the audio out of sync with the video by a couple of seconds.

Very annoying.

if u wanna convert files to iphone, i'd like to introduce a tool -xilisoft dvd iphone suite for mac. it has 2 parts :dvd 2 iphone converter for mac and iphone video converter for mac.
at first, i just tried tools randomly to find out some suited for me. then i digged out xilisoft dvd2iphone converter, and tasted the free trial. it runs fast and is easy to use, then i started to use xilisoft dvd iphone suite for mac. i think the tool meets my demand well.
i can rip and convert dvd to iphone video format, and convert dvd to iphone audio formats like m4a, wav and mp3….on max directly. and with xilisoft iphone video converter for mac, i can convert all popular video and audio files to the formats supported by iphone or ipod including mp4, m4a, mp3...
besides, the suite provides versatile settings and features, for example, i can rip any preferred segment by setting the start and end time...
here is a link : http://www.xilisoft.com/dvd-to-iphone-suite-mac.html

Daughter got an 8Gb Ipod for her birthday, and I have spent the better part of a day trying to get her favorite movie on it (Pirates of the Carribbean) Just about every software I tried couldnt get past the encryption.

I ended up downloading a trial version of DVD Fab Platinum 4, available at www.dvdfab.com. Simple to use, put the entire movie in an ipod format with default settings, easy as pie. $50 to buy (discount ends 12/31/2007), but I believe you get 30 days of usage on the demo.

Im buying it.
