How would I "test" a motherboard's PCI-E slot?

I'm having a lot of problems and I've narrowed it down to the video card. But, because I'm paranoid, I want to be sure that it's not the motherboard. Beyond just looking at it and not seeing a transistor falling off, is there any kind of test I can run to make sure everything is fine?

Heh. My spare, a 6800, may be dead. I put it in, turn the computer on, and no video. On the A B C D thing on the motherboard, B and D are amber. So, I can't do that.

Take your motherboard make/model and type into google and search for a user manual. Look up what those 2 lights mean. Also any beeps or anything? Does the OS load(hard drive activity and cpu activity). Post some more specs. I don't get you people. Everyone says there problem without saying what hardware there running. It can make a huge difference. You could have a known board for dieing early or something.
