I just read this article on ESXi hardening and security and this guy talks about hyperstack and hyperjack attacks. He says it is when an attacker introduces a rouge hypervisor into the network but does not go into any details on how such an attack would work. I can't seem to find much about this online. Has anyone ever heard of this or know how it would work?

This is a pretty good but basic article on hardening your ESXi infrastructure http://www.windowsitpro.com/article/virtualization/vmware-virtualization-security-139874

Interesting theories. The hyperstack attack has never happened, and while a neat theory, no one yet has shown how it would actually take place (how do you add an additional hypervisor)?

Hyperjack - now that's happened, but it's rare, and a good admin can catch it, but it's the same as a physical environment where someone compromises a machine - nothing is unique there about the virtual portion, other than the fact you could make a new machine (kinda hard to do in a physical world).

Other than that, good points on hardening any environment, ESXi or otherwise :)
