For the past few months I have been unable to put my computer to sleep. The monitor connection would go off but the desktop itself wont go off. And then I would have to manually turn off the computer because it won't turn back on on my monitor. My desktop is a Dell XPS 420 w/ the Windows 7 Beta 7000 build. (It did this when I had Vista as well)

I'm guessing then its a BIOS or Motherboard related thing....

To see what sleep modes are available, type powercfg -a in the cmd prompt.
It will diagnose the available sleep modes for you.

You may have to enable some ACPI Power modes in the bios. Make sure the S4 (or S3) System state is available.

honestly your better off using the hibernating feature on a desktop anyways.. sure it will take up hard drive space.. but for some reason using the sleep option on a desktop causes more problems then it does good.. but niteflite is correct with everything he said..

Do you have anything set in the Windows power management that is waking the computer? Sometimes media devices or usb devices (mouse/keyboard) can wake the computer so you have to disable that function to prevent them from doing so.
