Well, I have heard mixed things about Creative's X-fi Vista drivers. If was to install Vista Home Premium today, install the minimum from the X-fi CD, update drivers, how would I fare? I use a logitech 5.1 system.

X-fi and Vista users post your experiences please

I have X-FI Xtreme Music and Vista Home Premium 32bit
First download the latest drivers from Creative: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/
then update to newr version via WIndows update.
Download the drivers from http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R144728.EXE then u a program like winrar to extract that exe file to a folder, there should be the folder path /drivers/wdm/win2k_xp then in there if you have 32 bit vista, use the folder i386, if you have 64-bit vista use the folder amd64 copy the file ctac32k.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers (overwrite if necessary). Then, restart the computer. Go to device manager, make sure you have it set to display hidden devices. Look for Creative AC3 Software Decoder. Double click that. Then on one of the tabs there should be a start/stop button. Make sure you stop it then start it again.
Then download YouP-PAX X-Fi2 suite http://youppax.shcsclan.com/YouP-PAX-X-FI2007.rar
and install what you desire except audio drivers, you already got them.
And enjoy.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with the special YouP Pax Rev2 set that someone posted recently. It's basically the same as the YouP-Pax set that was released a few months ago, but the drivers have been updated as well as the console launcher.

With the original YouP-Pax I had trouble with the audio going dead every now and then. With this new package it has been clear sailing all the way.

Do you need to sacrifice a goat too? Jeez.

See above for reason why I'm stuck with XP this year at least.

1. Do NOT execute installation by directly clicking SETUP.EXE in this ISO, otherwise a few setting won't work for you.
2. If you have installed Creative Alchemy, copy both dsound.dll and dsound.ini of it to EAX game's directory and overwrite the same files. These two files have to appear with game exe file. eg, these two files are with where some exe files are in BIN directory.
3.Drivers in this software setup is developed for Vista in which AC3/DTS decoders are not available. Hence please discircle "Windows Drivers" in Customized installation and install other drivers instead.
4.Please switch off all antivirus before installing.

I'm stuck at step 3 trying to install from the PAX... cant figure where to copy both dsound.dll and dsound.ini to.... i need to overwrite these two files somewhere but instruction is not clear enough for me... cant find the folder to overwrite these files.. I dont know where the "EAX game's directory" is

Can someone please tell me what to do next... Thank you in advance

Same here.

I dont know really know what gvlada has so many steps in there for all i have ever needed to do was install the latest drivers from creative then install the YouP-Pax suite (Excluding thier drivers). But i dont game much on vista im still dual booting for the time being.

That step is for using ALchemy on games that are not automatically recognized, it means to copy the dsound files included with ALchemy in the same path the EXE file of the game is.

glavada's instructions are basically install the latest CL drivers and then the YP suite, the intermediate step that falls short of including a blood token is a workaround to enable DD/DTS decoding again.

It's a must for those who have an OEM/non-premium DVD player and don't have an external decoder near the computer.

Am I just blind, or are people posting instructions for doing something and not noting anywhere what these instructions are supposed to accomplish? Someone fill me in, please.

What do you mean: "not noting anywhere what these instructions are supposed to accomplish"? You need to do all this to accomplish full X-Fi work under Vista, full Creative suite and DD & DTS decoding.

I don't do as much with my sound card as some of these other folks I don't think, mostly gaming & listening to music occasionally. That said, I have an X-FI XtremeGamer and I downloaded the Vista drivers for x64 from Creative's site and everything has worked fine so far for me.
