Ok, I just received it about two hours ago so I haven't been able to fully play around with it and I am currently using the VGA port to connect to my PC as I am going to buy some monster dvi cable later. The feeling of simply browsing the web cannot be explained in words. As I am typing this looking from two feet away at this GIANT screen that is as sharp as my 3 year old 21" dell crt (I am using VGA atm and I have yet to calibrate it so it should look even better later on) I feel like I am a KING or better yet, a GOD!

Simply put this thing is huge! The screenshots cannot even compare to when you are alone in a room infront of this monster.

I was watching an episode of Naruto earlier encoded in crappy lowbitrate divx and it still was an awesome experience. I was playing some dungeon siege II and it looked very nice on the westinghouse considering the game doesn't support extremely high resolutions.

I primarily got this piece for pc gaming, xbox360gaming, and dvds. From what I have seen so far it looks like it will meet my needs and then some. I tested it out using the POS composite cable on my regular xbox and it still looked very good. The dvds sucked though through composite but that is normal for HD tvs.

I was very worried about this purchase because it is a hefty sum of money and it is VERY hard to find jack of all trade TV's that perform very well that don't cost over $15,000. This set seems to do a very good job at anything you throw at it. Of course it will never compare to a $4,000 plasma for DVDs and HDTV or a CRT TV for regular SD cable but that is just the way it goes.

I will post a followup once I get my DVI cable and play around more.

can you post some pictures up? I want to get the 26in westinghouse that is sold at bestbuy in my area. I wasn't able to see it hooked up to a PC (they don't do that here, only at microcenter and circuitcity) so I am a bit curious on how well it is(primarily going to use for the PC and PS3)

My friend jacked my digital camera for the weekend so I won't be able to right now. I just got the DVI cable and it is a HUGE difference! IT IS EVEN BETTER! This thing rocks.

There is one major downside, for me atleast, after hours of playing with it I noticed one pixel is stuck towards the upper left =( I don't think I will bother returning it on one dead pixel as it *did* take me hours just to notice it since this thing is so huge. However, everytime there is a white/light screen I notice it (I have very good eyes) and it is kind of annoying but thats life=/

Other than that I am enjoying this thing. I was just playing GUN in 3:4 and it was a lot of fun. It felt like a totally different experience than normal PC gaming.

Wow, I used to think this set wouldn't be as good as $3,000+ plasmas when viewing DVDs but I just changed my mind. After watching Starwars III and Howls Moving Castle using zplayer with a tweaked version of the ffdshow dvd filter I must say it looks twice as good as any of the $5,000 tvs I have seen sitting four feet away. This thing is amazing... How they managed to sell this for only 1600 and why there are only two other TV's in the "class" the westinghouse 37 is in (1920x1080 input and output LCD) I have no idea.

This has got to be one of my greatest buys in a very long time. I still can't get over just how sharp the screen is even at this huge size as I am typing this right now.

It has proved to be awesome for the pc, dvds, HD (SD isn't very good but I don't think there any HDTVs on the market that provides a good SD picture)... Now I just have to wait for the xbox 360 and see what the experience is like on that baby... Not sure whether VGA or component cables will be better for this set... Darn Microsoft for not supporting DVI :p My opinion is that xbox 360 games look a tad better then high end rig pc games at least until early '06 when the newest and meanest videocard comes out then the gaming scene will go back to normal as it has in the past.

I will be upgrading my sound system next week and then I am done spending money on my comp setup until I do a complete system overhaul sometime late '06.

Barrack - even if you are a "...KING or better yet, a GOD!..." you still have to follow the rules:
(7) No CUSSING in the thread title.
As such, I did a little editing on yours. No worries, just a friendly reminder, m'lord.....:D

....nice monitor, BTW....

Thanks - B.B.S.

That could be the nicest, most friendly moderation I've ever seen!

PICTURES! We want pictures, so that we can envy you even more! What you describe sounds awesome! I think I see the end of the unchallenged reign of the 2405FPW in this forum! Challengers arise!

Truly an epic moment!

Good gawd, man. Two feet away from a 37 inch LCD???? You got a wonderful view of the screen door effect that's for sure. Why didn't you get a 50 inch? Desk couldn't hold it? Then you could be king of the universeeeeeeeeeeee. LOL. Oh, BTW, this can't be good for your eyes, neck, and would probably make those ergonomic specialists I see at work faint.... your Highness.

heh, I wonder how that'd feel like, working on such a monitor. I dunno, isn't it kinda hard to read websites and stuff, when you have to move your head from one end to the other constantly? Gotta be great for movies, maybe for games, but for games it might be disadvantegous not to be able to see everything at once (ie. by the time u move your head to see the enemy on the far left/right, it might be too late)
Post some pics man.

Wht resolution does that thing actually do? 1920x1080? 1366x720? I am looking at this too. Thanks

I brought home my Westinghouse 32" last night...I don't have a 360 yet, but I played some PC games off my laptop (F.E.A.R.) and plugged in the old x-box and both look great. I am however very dissapointed when using the LCD TV as a monitor for regular PC stuff. I'll take and post some pics ASAP, I will also plug in my computer tower which has a better ATI graphics card and see if I can pump up the resolution, just let me eat breakfast first...

Wow...this might be a better buy over the new Samsung 24" 244T w/HDCP

I noticed this Westinghouse has HDCP as well! Plus it is freaking 37 inches and the same 1000:1 contrast ratio.

Dammit...I have been so happy with Samsung in the past, but this thing is tempting!

EDIT: Just read a review that says, "Of the two DVI inputs provided, only one was capable of accepting 1080p input. The other was limited to 1,280-by-1,024 or 1080i video."

Does this mean one of the DVI inputs is Dual Link and one is Single Link?

EDIT2: Is there a PC Driver (INF file) for this monitor? Also, what is the refresh rate in native resolution? (60Hz?) This is the big question...will this monitor support 1080p60!?

EDIT3: Final edit LOL. I am a dumbass...downloaded the PDF manual and it says DVI 1 is capable of 1920x1080 @ 60Hz.

Fine Fine here is a picture... I took it fast so don't complain :p

Just to note the 26" and 32" westinghouses are in a completely different ballpark than the westinghouse 37"... You can't use the 26" or 32" for pc use it will look like crap.. They are just your run of the mill lcd tvs..

The DVI1 is not dual link it's just that only one DVI connection supports 1080p input and output.

Yeah the refresh rate is 60Hz at 1080p but it is not comparable to a normal pc monitor at 60Hz otherwise I wouldn't be able to look at the screen having sensitive eyes. I would compare the 60Hz on this screen to about 85-90Hz on your average PC monitor so if you can deal with that then this screen is for you. I was very concerned about this as well and I knew that it only did 60Hz but wondered why people who bought it never complained about it. Now I know it is not the same to my eyes as it is with a normal PC monitor. However, at lower resolutions than 1080p the max refresh rate is higher just so you know.

My Radeon does recognize my monitor by it's manufacturing number in catalyst and it knows which options this monitor supports which is really nice. There is no driver that the monitor comes with though.

Happy Thanksgiving ;)

Does this thing use an S-PVA or an S-IPS panel? Anybody knows?

Oh, and congrats on the purchase, Barrack :)

Barrack please join the club. and i'm glad you found one of the most beautiful monitors on the market. for me, i just hope 37in is big enough, or else i might have the itch to get more and more and more... and before you know it 100in of display isn't enough

What is the average lifespan of an LCD?

Can the backlight be replaced so it is as good as new again?

When will the average person start to notice the backlight dimming from age?

If it is as good as new for roughly 5 yrs, then that should be cool. I figure I will be replacing my monitors every 5 yrs or so.

So true, I got the 32 like I mentioned before...although it looks great for almost everything, it does not fit the bill for PC use. it's native resolution is too low. the 37" has much higher resolution thus making me wish I had the 37" instead. Darn you Barrack. How much was your TV by the way?

EDIT: however when using the the 32" with a decent video card at it's native resolution of 1366x768 it does look pretty good. But if you are like me and demand more screen real estate, for stuff like photoshop, and video editing...this monitor is not for you. But if you don't do much PC stuff and don't mind running at 1366x768 resolution, then I highly recommend this LCD TV.

Also, how come the 37" looks much cooler at Target....check this out --> Click Here

Mine is only 1280x768 on a 26" lcd and its fine for pc use. Though I use it mostly for internet, games and watching video. I can see how certain pc users would want higher resolution. I read a lot of text on mine and like being able to do it from 5 feet away. If I had 1920x1080 resolution on this size monitor I would really have to squint to see the text (at the same five feet away)

Who makes the panel in this thing? Anyone know??

Also, has the TV had any revisions since it first came out?

I Myself today picked up the 27" Olevia LCD TV that was on special at Office Depot for $499, after $300 mail in rebates,(Have to delay my Opty170 purchase for now=( ), It supports 1280 X 768 resolution, on my dual DVI X800 XL have it hooked up a few hours so far at the foot of my bed, kinda cool watching dvds & surfing the web with large pages , also watching tv on it as well, seems like a pretty good monitor so far,now ,if i get my rebates in a timely manner, lol

Don't buy monster. You are over paying for a NAME, that is it. It is NOT better, that is just what the pimply faced Best Buy kid tells you because that is what Best Buy trains their pimply faced kids to tell customers.

Also, Radio Shack had a nice clearance on their DVI cables, something around $12 for 6 feet.
