I just thought of something, SLI 7900GTs?

Okay, well I'm going to upgrade and I am seriosly considering the X1900XT or the Geforce 7900GTX both should be about the same price in 5days or so, but I thought It might give me better performance if I bought two 7900GTs for 600$, so would it be faster?

what is a 7900 gt? *edit... nevermind. didn't know 7800's were coming in GT flavor :) Time to sell the 7800's! I can get 300 each from some locals who don't know any better. LoL

It's reasonable to assume that dual 7900gts will be noticeably faster than a single x1900xtx...

However, realize that means more power, more heat, and more noise...and that it won't be faster 100% of the time...

Yea, I've just been wandering what would be better I'm going to buy a Antec 500watt truepowersupply, and how much more heat would it make? I don't care about noise and its safe to assume it (1 video card) wouldn't use more then say 70watts at any given time.

You most likely will need at least a 550watt power supply for 7900's in SLI.

Probably not tremendously more...you just need to make sure you have very solid cooling and power before you get two high end cards in SLi...with a single x1900xt it wouldn't be as much of a concern...

eh I've might of changed my mind, lol I just saw the Radeon X1900XT at 450$, thats a great price and that card can handle anything thrown at it, I'll probably buy that but I'm still going to wait till the 7900 cards are released because I would be foolish to not wait.

Edit: Oh yah, I'm thinking about maby a cheinming case and a couple fans, that should be adequete cooling.

As long as you don't have more than 2 opticals and hard drives, there's no way a 550watt will be NECCESSARY. Not more than a 400 would probably be neccessary. But going with a 500 just to be safe isn't a bad idea.

i got the best solution to ur psu concerns

instead of purchasing a new psu to run 2 cards, i'll use 1 of those cards in my system

*PM for address ;)

yeah, I'm using a pretty low part count

Only Antec Case + Powersupply
X2-4200+
2GB Ram
X1900XT or Geforce 7900GTX or 7900GT SLI
DVD-RW
320GB HD

Thats all I'm putting in the rig so I think a 500 watt supply should be adequete.

Yes it's a solution, but why wouldn't I just buy a X1900XT or Geforce 7900GTX, I'm leaning toward the former as its (street) price is probably going to be cheaper.

Edit: Unless of course I want the 7900GT sli's but I don't think I even need that much power as the only games I'll be playing for quite some time is Oblivion&Neverwinter Nights 2.

on another thread they had 7900GT SLI 3Dmark06 scores. they were a few points lower than my GTX 512 so its going to be like this 7800GT<7900GT<7800GTX<7800GTX512=<1900XTX<7900GTX/512

3dmark06 is not a real gaming benchmark...the card isnt released yet so dont speculate, the drivers were not optimized, you have no proof it was real (photochop) and the rig was absolute shit([email protected] and 512 meg of ram= huge sli bottleneck)....this all adds up to LOW PERFORMANCE...just wait for the real benchmarks before making absurd comments...

Oh well, time will tell me the answer, pretty much the options I have (assuming I stick to 600$ max for video cards)

1 Radeon X1900XTX
1 Geforce 7900GTX
2 Geforce 7900GT SLI

I don't think I wanna spend a ton of money though on video as any of those solutions won't be slow in any upcoming game and will be a massive upgrade over my single 6800GT.

i am building a computer soon and i hope the 7900 gtxs will be able to run in this
fx-60
2 gb of ram
250 7,200 hd
2 7900 gtxs
antec psu 550 watt
Nzxt lexa gaming case
Maybe liquid cooling dont know yet

Dude just wait for the AMD FX-M chip that will have 3 cores at 5.0ghz and DDR3 memory and Intel will be smelling smoke. :D with the DX10 Nvidia 8900 GTXYZ

Wow, that's going to run games very well. More power to ya if you have the funds to make it happen.

No way. That computer isn't powerful enough to run two 7900GTXs... (sarcasm)

The computer won't work with the antec supply. IT doesn't have enough balls. Hell, that system will blow out a OCZ 600w. You need something like the following:

PCP&C 510 SLI
PCP&C 850 SSI
PCP&C 1 Killowatt
FSP Epsilon 600
FSP Epsilon 700w
Silverstone - anything from Zeus series
Zippy 700

Or any other of a number of strong supplies with either a single 12v of 36 amps or above, or something with 4 12v lines with 15-18 amps each that act as one (like the FSP Epsilon).

The antec will go boom. Trust me, I've done it.
