Hello Everyone
I was playing around with bigadv this weekend and finally finished my first unit. Now I had a delay in getting started of about 10 hours due to incorrect file permissions (oops) and I got a 2684 as my first unit. I only seem to have gotten 9000 points for this unit? Based on the base points I should have gotten 25K for it?

Long story short with all the stuff I do with this machine besides folding it would seem like SMP might be a better idea here. I was just trying it out to see what it would do. It doesn't make sense that my other two machines would have turned in so many points so I think this has to be it.

They are worth 8955 points without bonus. Are you seeing this in your stats? You may have just missed the bonus deadline on this one and turned it in before the final deadline when you only get base points. The older quad I7s are close to the bonus deadline on 2684s anyway, so a 10 hours delay may have done you in.

Thanks for the guidance. Sounds like I will let it roll bigadv since I won't have that specific delay again.

This guy is overclocked to 3.45 but the ram is only 1333 so it is running fairly slow in the memory section.

Oh and above when I say my first bigadv I am only referring to this machine. I have run bigadv but that has been on systems that are FAST and I wasn't concerned about the deadlines.

Caught this in the log, as musky said you missed the deadline due to the 10hour delay and got base points

Ick, 2684's suck extra hard on single proc boxes. You're almost obliged to do nothing with your system but let it run for fear of missing the bonus deadline.

yeah it sucks but at least I made the final deadline so the work didn't get lost. I didn't get many points but the work got done. I am looking forward to my next one. It will be a little more pointable.

Yah I have a 940 here running at 3.6 and it will make the deadline for a 2684 by about 8 or 10 hours if I remember right. Zips through the 6900's easily though.

Got a 920 on the way that is supposed to go over 4 so will be better off with it. ymmv

any chance to speed this rig up a bit?

This might be a stupid question, but how much of a factor does RAM play into the efficiency of a processor folding?
not a stupid question. I would say anywhere between 0% and 10% impact on performance depending on a fairly wide number of factors.

This system has a stock cooler so I don't want to push it to hard. It has 3 x 4 gig sticks of ram that is low speed not great latency so that also limits my choices somewhat. Anyway it will probably OC more with more volts but it is still default voltages and I am not in a hurry to make THIS system go harder than that. In the near future I will have another I7 folding that will be able to be pushed to the max but that topic is for another day.
