I'm at a loss.. Router forwarding myspace logins to google.com?

I suspect a weak attempt at DDoS-ing MySpace. I wonder how many infected people it takes before they notice a change in traffic and start poking around. Maybe even reading the e-mails we've sent instead of a form letter reply.
 
I bought 4 different computers, got 3 different ISPs and 15 routers, I still cannot get Myspace to work.

That's alot of money just trying to get to MySpace... addiction? lol

If you really did try all that it seems pretty reasonable for me to say the problem lies with MySpace.
 
How do we get it fixed?

I discovered today (day 6) that no matter what I enter in the password box, I get directed to Google.

I hate to sound like a whiny little cry-baby, but I actually access MySpace for work for information gathering purposes, and going through a proxy server just isn't cutting it for me.

There is virtually no human contact at customer service I can ask about this. I may resort to going through my law enforcement link to MySpace.

I have to say your problem is extremely odd however, and i cannot think of any other solution. I've never heard of this happening to anybody. Somebody stole my facebook login though, poor old little nerdy me, my profile is probably some chick spamming people to visit her webcam now :(
 
There is a lot of information that is valuable to law enforcement on MySpace:

Here is a short list, that is not all-inclusive by any means:
1. Identifying predators (not my specialty, but the same section.)
2. Identifying gang members.
3. Cyber-bullying (is huge on MySpace.)
4. Identifying peer networks.
5. Sometimes, people implicate themselves in crimes (imagine that.)

It would be useful to have my access back. Like I said, it's only from the desktop I use at home. I can still get in at work, so it leads me to believe the pathway has been altered in some way. I think I have a worm that has yet to be identified. I worry that it is insignificant enough for anyone to devote a great deal of time to. It certainly isn't worth reloading my OS.

It just annoys the hell out of me having a problem I can't resolve.
 
If I posted mine, could someone look at it and tell me if there is anything that looks like a problem?

You aren't the only one having these problems yet it sounds to me like you are still assuming you ARE the only one.

Seems pretty widespread and there are threads other than on these forums discussing it.

You are aware of how very, very stupid this sounds, right? What precisely, are you going to complain about? Do you have a service level agreement with Myspace? Are you paying them for guaranteed access to the site? No? So you want to have law enforcement look into your problem why? What crime is Myspace committing here?

Seriously, you have wireshark output. Either learn how to read it or give it to somebody who can.
 
There are ways of embedding HTML in myspace. I suspect you tried to add a background or other stuff, and accidentialy embeded a forward to google, so when you log in and go to your myspace page it just jumps to Google.
 
Open your c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file in notepad and delete anything directing myspace to google's IP address. Sounds like someone is having some fun with you.

There's irony in telling a guy to read the thread when you've evidently missed the fact that he IS law enforcement and was not threatening to involve police but rather use his other access.


Something that I'd do is tell your department's IT or networking specialists. They will be better at running this down that you are.

Otherwise, it sounds like it's pretty widespread both in occurrence and in geography and other delineating factors. I bet the best fix for the problem is to do nothing and wait for myspace and google to fix it.

Since rebooting routers and spoofing MAC addresses fixes the issue for some, is it possibly IP address based in some way? When you reboot or copy a MAC address, you'll get assigned a different IP by the DHCP (for most) but depending on service type some people will have static IP's on the WAN side. Just a thought, I don't know too much about this.

I realize it is widespread. I have been researching it for a week now. How widespread does it have to be before it gets fixed? I anxiously await a solution.

Yes, I have been reading the thread with great interest. Please, PLEASE, tell me where else I can read about it.

I'm not complaining; it was my aim to point out to them that I have a problem, and I would hope that they are painfully aware of it and can tell me when I can expect a solution.

No, I do not have a service level agreement. MySpace is free, and any shlub can open an account and break the law with it. Therefore, I am gainfully employed. It's my job to deal with knuckleheads, within my jurisdiction mind you, when they see fit to misuse and abuse the wonderful wide world web.

You see, I AM law enforcement, and I have law enforcement contacts with MySpace, but this is a pretty minor issue. Their LE point of contact definitely has bigger fish to fry than helping a lowly detective like me check up on perverts, gangstas, and high school kids who like to hurt each other. Since I can use my system at work to get into MySpace just fine, it really isn't that big of a deal. I do like to send a message to my mom and my nephew now and then, and look at some pics of my friends who live far away. Not really the sort of thing I waste time on while I am at work.

Sometimes, I do follow up on crap at home. You see, I am a dedicated cop.

As a result, I haven't spent a great deal of time learning how to read Wireshark. I thought this seemed like a pretty helpful bunch of internet- savvy people who could help me out, and not a bunch of self-righteous, angry twidgets who are holier than thou and don't want to impart a bit of knowledge onto us lowly servant types.

I have spent the last twenty years chasing bad guys, not learning HTML. Maybe I should spend less time chasing bad guys on- line and more time trying to figure out how the "line" actually works.

Yes, I have tried changing my IP address, clearing the cache, etc...

I have looked at my system file and I don't see anything that jumps out as a MySpace redirect to Google either.

Like I said, this is simply an itch I can't scratch. I value your input.

i had the issue, and this fixed it very quickly. thanks for your help, logik.
 
Its funny how nobody in here mentioned clearing your browser's cache and deleting all of your cookies.

Changing the MAC address on your router usually will cause the ISP to assign you a new IP which can sometimes cause a new cookie to be used when logging in to certain websites.

Same goes with rebooting a router on a DSL connection. A new IP is usually assigned which means again, the cookie problem.
