I was wanting to do some upgrading to a second home rig......
I installed a 15K 18GB SCSI Cheetah on a DELL Dimension for a new boot/apps drive.
SCSI drive is controlled using a plain ol LSI LSIU160 card.
Then, after a fresh Win XP-Pro install , I ran ATTO benchmark tests.
I got around 60mbs read and write speeds.

Is this what can be expected here? Seems a bit low?

Or....should a buck up for the 74GB Raptor ?

any thoughts?

Which Cheetah model? X15?
60MB/sec is probably about where you want to be, though ATTO is not an optimal hard drive test and not representative of real-world usage. Sequential transfer rates are only a small part of the picture - what a 15,000 rpm drive gets you is high STR's in addition to lightning fast seeks. Minus rotational latency you should be seeing seeks at the <4ms level.

A raptor is better tuned for single user benchmarks, but most any modern SCSI drive will take it to town on multiuser benchmarks.
