iPod problem

my friend gave me his 40gig ipod for free. Its got this HDD problem I think. It boots up, but then the corrupt file icon comes up, along with some battery problem. And when it works for like 10-15 seconds of time, It wont list as a HDD storage device in my computer. Is there like a reset button I can press on it or something? Please help.

Umm if the corrupt HD icon comes up (the ipod with the sad face), you're basically screwed. There's nothing really you can do, even reset, unless you're willing to send it to Apple and dish out like $$ for a new HD.

I had the same problem with my ipod photo. Becuase I had a warranty with BestBuy, I took it to them and they gave me a brand new Ipod Video.

You might want to call Apple and see what they can do.
The hard drive failed icon usualyl means that he must have dropped his ipod or something.
I dropped mine but denied dropping it at the bestbuy (they asked me if I dropped it) haha.
