IRC troubles

I'm currently running winxp pro sp2 with all the updates. I've tried almost every irc client out there and everytime i get disconnected then reconnect. What i discovered was if i don't join any channels i don't get disconnected. I left the server status window open over night and i never disconnected once. Typically i stay connected for like 5 minutes, get disconnected then reconnect again. I've tried xchat, mirc, trillian irc all do the same thing. BTW this is all on freenode. TIA.
