Is the 9500pro the best card I can get for $100.00

Isn't a 9600XT about the same speed now?

That's still a pretty decent card for $100, especially if you can enable 256-bit memory.
 
But the 9600XT is setting around $135-140. From the bench marks I have seen the 9500 pro is beating out the 9600XT
 
I'd take a 9500 Pro over a 9600XT. But the difference is very minimal.
 
thanks. I am gonna pick up a 9500 pro. Money sucks and this geforce 4 ti4200 64mb is not cutting it anymore. I saw Half life 2 on my friends 9600XT and was surprised how well it ran.
 
I coulda sworn it had a 256bit memory o.o, damn it's been a while since I've read up on the old-school 9500 series, maybe I oughta just discontinue my "support" of that series LOL till I read up about them again o_O.

well the 9500pro is a better choice since it beats out the 9600xt in most games.. and u are getting it for 100 anyways.. and its better than the 9600xt so grab it! hehe
 
I agree, 100 for pretty much a 9600xt with less OCing capabilities is about what a 9600xt should be selling for IMHO. Good deal.

refurb 9500pros at the egg for 102 btw

My 9500 Pro runs Far Cry very well at Very High settings @ 10x7 2x AA and 2x AF. Same goes for HL2. Definitely my best hardware purchase 2 years ago.

both the 9600xt and 9500pro have 128bit memory interfaces

the difference is that the 9600xt has 4pixel pipelines and a lower gpu clock, the 9500pro has 8pipelines and a lower gpu clock
 
I was hoping someone would mention the 9500 Pro having 128 bit memory. If your lucky and get a 9500 pro with the L shaped memory then you might be able to flash it to a 9700 pro. I"m keeping my eyes open for one like that.
 
i got a 9500 pro the summer before last when i built my current system. it has been running battlefield vietnam, medal of honor, call of duty, etc very well. i was not able to figure out how to overclock it or anything, basically because i never bothered, it has always run great out of the box for me. the only game that doesnt run so great is doom 3, but that may be due to the version i got... im getting half life 2 right now and ill wait and see if it can handle that, if not, i may get a new 6600 gt and retire my pro to the family box.
 
I believe that the 9500 series are 256-bit... Thus, they have the capabilities to be softmodded to a 9700.

The Radeon 9500s were full dx9.0 cards. They were basically half of a 9700 in that they had 4 pipelines instead of 8. They also had the 256 bit bus that the 9700 had. There were many 9500s that were able to be softmodded to a 9700. My 9500 has all 8 pipes working fine with no artifacts. Probably the video card steal of the century. Here is where I go for the softmod: link . If you can find one of these cards, then you're gold.
 
dont mess with the softmod, its to risky. 9700pro's stil kick ass and you can get one for 120 refurb if you shop around
 
As it was said, the 9500pro can't be flashed to anything other than what it is. The 9500np can be flashed, but at this point your chances of buying a retail card that is flashable is slim to none. Your best bet if you wanted to get a flashable card would be to buy one from someone who already tested and flashed it. It's probably not even worth the extra the people would want over regular price, considering the lower prices of real 9700's now.
