what are you talking about? the gtx295 msrp is just 100 bucks more than a gtx285 and the gtx295 delvers 50-60% more performance. the prices have came down a little on the gtx285 but the gtx295 still offers more performance for the money.i see the small difference in FPS...like 10-15 more in some games but it costs almost double...should i just go with the GTX 285?
Actually, the GTX 285 is dropping down in price fast. Right now, you can pick one up for $379 CDN. At that price, I would get it over the GTX 295 to be honest.

link pleasei can get one even cheaper, $350.00 w/ CoD5 and Farcry2 on newegg
thanks. if it had free shipping I think I would get it because thats not a bad price with the two games included. I already have FC2 and I dont care for COD games and I am afraid I might have trouble selling them for even 20 bucks each. Im hoping these prices will drop some more soon...
Completely not the point of this thread, why do 4870x2 people always do that?I'd recommend the 4870X2 over the GTX 295.
Today at NewEgg:
XFX GTX 285 +COD5 = $350
4870 X2 = $430
GTX 295 = $480.
IMO, the GTX 285 seems the best bang (and less hassle) for the bucks.
the gtx295 is more bang for buck if you dont want the games that come on the gtx285 deal.Today at NewEgg:

At stock clocks a GTX 280 and GTX 285 perform the same (right from the H review of the EVGA GTX 285SSC). The GTX 280 are really the best bang for the buck right now.
This is true. I hit 24K+ on Vantage and haven't even begun to overclock it yet. However, for $150 less plus free games, GTX 285 is a pretty good deal. I had one and it was VERY quiet but, at that time, the GTX 295 was "only" $100 difference so I went for it and it is faster but not $150 faster.
past the gtx295s performance? heck no. the gtx295 is 55-60% faster than a gtx285 so unless you get the gtx285 to over 1000mhz on the core you wont reach the stock gtx295 performance.so can i OC a GTX 285 xxx edition w/ liquid (maybe?) cooling past a stock GTX 295?

I wasnt either until COD4, and I think it might be my favorite game of all time.
anyways, the GTX 295 is essentially two GTX 260s in SLI in a single package and a wonky driver.
no actually its 2 55nm gtx260s with all shaders unlocked. To be more exact, its 2 285s with a cut down memory buffer and bus.

technically you can call it what you want but think about this. for it to be considered a cut down 285 you would have to have a different bus width, less ROP, completely different and slower memory and lower gpu clocks. the EASIEST and most ACCURATE description is that it is 2 55nm gtx260 cards with the shaders unlocked since EVERY other aspect of the card is 55nm gtx260. all bus widths, ROP, memory type and speed, and gpu clocks are the EXACT same as the 55nm gtx260.You two are saying the exact same thing. Those 2 features are the only real difference between the 55nm 260 and the 285. But argue on if it makes you feel better lol.
