Hello all havent posted in a awhile but have been folding steady. Anywho....

I recently purchased a E6300 and have stressed it with 2 instances of prime for 36+ hours without an issue but when i run 2 instances of folding on it it reboots after an hour. so what gives?? temps are lower folding(40 C) then with prime(51 C) and i can figure out what the issue is any ideas fellow folders?

thanks in advance

Buck

ummm...you have both instances running from different folders? different machine ID's? You arent running the graphical version are u?

yes different folders both have machine ID set correctly and its the Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista "No nonsense" text-only console. what gets me is my AMD 3800X2 did this just fine running both cores but this intel sucks sofar.

sure thing.

Thats the logs. the settings used for flags are the same i used on the AMD cpu that was dual core maybe i should not use the same flags but one would think the latest and greatest could handle it fine.

Heat would be the only issue I can think of, but you pretty much ruled that out. Is is a reboot while your working on your computer, or is it something where it will not come back from a hibernate state or something? Also, their is a fah-previous log. Can you post that too possibly?

another request ...please post config file... -advmethods is handled by type=3

Box never hibernates and it does not matter if you are working(surfing net) or just letting it sit and fold hits the hour mark and reboots post and loads windows. on a side note If i load only one client it will fold for days without issue. you want the previous for both clients correct? ill pop that on the next past here in a minute

SO the answer is a nice one...

Rails ok? 12v/5v dropping down?

Prime is great, but it's not all that. Don't get me wrong, it a box is prime stable if *should* be good.

One problem w/ prime is the SSE is not really engaged by prime. FAH will light that stuff up, especially on the fist WU posted.

Try stress CPU: http://home.comcast.net/~wxdude1/emsite/download.html at the bottom.

Generally spontaneous your f%$#ed reboots is with a temp deal or a power deal. Or something on a hardware level is just borked.

Maybe the 2nd core is not 100%?

Run manfactures diags/other diags? Run other burn in programs (Sandra SI etc.).

well i have been running that stresscpu for about 20 min so far and all is good knock on wood will see what happens at the 1 hour mark. been measuring the 12v and 5 v with a volt meter neither bounces much 12v is @ 12.35 and never drops below that highest is have seen is 12.38 and the 5v is @ 5..08 and never drops below highest was 5.11

so i guess will see soon enough.

Thanks for all the input so far. I'm much obliged.

Buck

UPDATE

ran stresscpu on both cores for 8 and 1/2 hours without a hitch going to test sandra now if that makes it then im lost as to why it wont fold.

thanks again!!

Buck

Maybe delete both FAH installs w/ reg keys. Download the client again and try again.

Also, go into your administrative tools, computer management and check your event logs. Maybe your reboot error is in there and it will give you a better idea of what is going on.

It could also be faulty memory. Download the ultimate boot cd at www.ultimatebootcd.com and run several of the memory tests to rule that out.

Also, if you are running your E6300 overclocked, for grins, drop it back to stock speed and try folding. If that works, you know your overclock isn't stable. If it doesn't work, you'll know something else is wrong (memory, motherboard, power supply, Windows install, etc).

UPDATE

Well after countless hours of pounding(with a 12lb. maul) lubing with KY jelly and thrusting of a Motherboard i have found my issue which appears to be a bum 7800gtx it does not like having dual displays enabled. It causes lock ups, random reboots and what not so i disabled one display and bahmoo she folds just fine and dandy.

thanks gents for the help

What ended up being the way you found out that this was the problem? Just for future knowledge for quicker troubleshooting.

well i had to instances of stresscpu running and for some reason decided to go into the nvidia properties and instant lockup. i rebooted and went in and disabled the second display started up stresscpu again and could go in and out of the properties as much as i wanted. without any problems. so could be a driver issue but im leaning towards hardware since it seems flaky with strange drawing errors just in the desktop.
