just bought this - XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler

Fantastic heatsink: just read up how to properly apply thermal paste as it is a bit different then with flat sink methods.

^^^

lol...really? I installed it with a line of thermal paste on the CPU. A Q8400 idles @ 34/33 and two stuck sensors at 38/40. Lin test(s) brings it to 55ish.

Did you buy the backplate also ? I got the Xigmatek Dark knight, its the same as the S1283, but its Black and comes with the backplate in the box.
My Q6600 @ 3.60 idle at 38-36-38-38, and around 50c load in COD5. (Vcore 1.387, room temp 25c). During the night my room temp is more like 22c i get around 34c idle :))

how does this compare to the arctic cooling freezer 7 pro weight wise?

The 1283 weighs 660g with the fan attached. Not very heavy for a heatsink of it's performance.

A quick Google reveals the Freezer 7 Pro at 520g. Not much of a difference.

i should be fine then and do not need backplate, i have had ACF7 pro for over a year using the push pins with no trouble at all

no i did not get the backplate. just got what i linked too

I think you should get the backplate too. When i purshased my HSF a lot of ppl on this forum recommended me the backplate for a better contact between the heatsink and the CPU. Im a noob and i had no problems at all taking out the mobo and installing the backplate. Its easy and works way better then the pushpins system.

I use an HDT-S1283 mounted with pushpins on my main rig and it does a fine job of cooling my CPU. The backplate would be preferable, but it isn't necessary.

Holy fuck only 1.38v? I need 1.52 for stable (with vdrop 1.46).

Lucky man... Although my temps are fine and load 50c~ish. Idle is like 44-38-40-44 but I am not using any AC, just a fan and it's hot.

Yea im happy i got it to 3.6 with that voltage. On the other hand, i tried to push it to 3.7 with a higher voltage (1.55 in BIOS) but it gave me error in Prime95 after like 1 hour if i remember correctly :( I don't think i can get it higher than 3.60. It might also be because i didnt really thouch the other Voltage setting to get it to 3.60, i left pretty much everything auto except the CPU Vcore. I guess if i want to hit 3.7 i need to higher NB etc.

PS: sry for thread hijack, lol

that is ok, i do not mind!! :) i have a Q6600 also so the results give me something to shoot for when UPS delivers my cooler. i have my Q6600 at 3.2GHZ right now 1.3 in bios and 1.26 in windows and it loads out around 120F and this is on a stock cooler with shin-etsu paste. i can not imagine what i will get with the new cooler

installed cooler today, WOW!!! :D

You can see my results with it here with its big brother the "Dark Knight" Oh and please give your temps in C ;)
