I built a brand new Kaby Lake system with an i7 7700k and an MSI Pro Series Intel B250 LGA 1151.

I installed Ubuntu Server on it, and it was up and running for a week under relatively light load. Tonight, I started using it more heavily by running a few CPU-heavy tasks on it.

All of a sudden, the machine shut itself down and would not turn back on.

I pulled everything out, including the CPU and motherboard to make sure nothing was shorted. If I try to power it up, the motherboard light flashes for a fraction of second, turns off, and the machine does not boot.

I pulled the CPU out, reseated it, and still nothing. I tried clearing CMOS, still no luck.

Is the CPU likely bad? I would need to RMA it.

If I pull the CPU out of the socket, the motherboard boots up and stays turned on. Still think I should try a different power supply? I'd have to take apart another computer of mine.

90% sure that's a PSU issue.. i've faced same issue in the past.. always related to PSU...

I pulled out the memory and no luck so far.

Taking apart another one of my machines to test out the PSU now.

Disconnect the 24 pin power cable to the motherboard and see what happend then plug it back in.
