keyboard or speedpad?

I want back lit gaming keys and I dont love the ergo of a flat keyboard while gaming so I am looking at some options. I could get a keyboard with the butterfly key area like the SteelSeries Merc Stealth or I could get a speedpad like the Belkin N52te or the Logitech G13. Anybody have input on what has worked best for them? I am leaning towards the Belkin because it is compact, I can position it how i want on the desk and I can put it away when not used. The keyboard seems OK, but it is larger than a standard board and I am not sure of its back light quality. It does add a couple of USB ports and the audio ports, which is nice, but I can get that from a few different boards.
