I bought a Seasonic X750 the last time it went on sale for $99 and was extremely aggravated from it to say the least. For some reason the fan kept kicking on and off every minute or so. It seemed to be that I was at the threshold for it to kick on and it was incredibly annoying hearing it rev up and then turn back off.

Returned it and went with Kingwin Absolute Platinum 550 Platinum (same price at mwave, $99) and the fan never goes off, not even full load w/ overclocked HD7950. I am a sound freak and do not want to hear a thing and this PSU delivers. [H] did a review on the same unit, but modular, it is the 550 lazer platinum and it got good reviews, but I didn't want to spend the extra $40 for modular.

Sorry, just wanted to throw this out as it seems people think Seasonic/Corsair is their only option. BTW, had a Corsair HX620 prior for 5+ years, still running , but it was starting to make frighteningly loud coil noise that left me a bit worried.

Coil whine is completely random, and it sounds like you had a faulty fan controller/fan.

And yes, anyone who knows anything about power supplies will know about all the other options out there. Superflower is just one of them, there's also Enermax, CWT, and Flextronics.

Corsair and Seasonic just made a big name for themselves due to Corsair's often superior customer service and Seasonic's longer history.
