Yeah, we can’t make this stuff up. Devout Jews now have a search engine of their very own that is kosher. Dubbed “Koogle”, it blocks material that is religiously objectionable, such as pictures of women that Orthodox rabbis feel are immodest.

Its links to Israeli news and shopping sites also filter out items most ultra-Orthodox Israelis are forbidden by rabbis to have in their homes, such a television sets. "This is a kosher alternative for ultra-Orthodox Jews so that they may surf the Internet," Altman said by telephone.

yeah and im sure that search engine was made from front-half cow meat and non-iodized salt

I hear they are using bagels for the "o"'s in the name.
It's supposed to be cute.

This goes right up there with the "black" search engine that came out a few months ago. Now we need a Halal search for muslims. Halooge? Bing: Kosher?

this makes no sense, if their rabbis dont let them have a tv then how is it that they are allowed a computer?

man I could say so many mean things........

i'll leave it at...is this necessary?

I guess they won't know about it until tomorrow. Today's the Sabbath so they shouldn't be online. ;)

Cue the person that will link me to how Sabbath works or something like that and then correct me.

I'm not jewish... im just a regular ass white guy.

Am i the only one that notices for all the "unity" and "melting pot" ideas we throw around, everyone is more than happy to segregate themselves. Jewish search engines, black search engines.

everyone is caught up on the idea of being special and unique, and clique-ish.

Everyone wants to be special/unique/noticed but at the same time you can't discriminate or even notice they are different? wtf people

I was going to convert, but found out it's forbidden to eat eagle... F that noise. You can't eat eagle, you can't eat rock badger, you can't eat lamprey. What the hell can you eat?

Whats making it into your gumbo?

A search engine that you can't use for porn? ...that's fucking useless.

It would be interesting if Google sued them for the use of a similar name and since it is used for a search engine.

Of course it isn't. How many things in your life are actually "necessary"? Some people wanted such a search engine, and some other people were willing to do the work to put such a search engine into effect. The necessity of such a thing doesn't matter.

Having been raised Modern Orthodox, all I gotta say is I'm surprised it took them this long. The use of a computer is not forbidden, many Judaica shops in Orthodox neighborhoods carry, for example, electronic versions of religious books on CD's, Hebrew/English word processors (http://www.davka.com/cgi-bin/product.cgi?product=367), Hebrew language learning programs for converts, etc.

The thing is, if you notice from the link above... they still have to support Windows 98 for a reason

The Internet is problematic because it allows easy access to pornography. If your computer gets a virus and pornographic popups come up, you've sinned. If you open a spam email that advertises lewd conduct, you've sinned. That's not to say that no Orthodox Jews have internet connections - there are Orthodox forums, the major Orthodox book publishers operate websites, there is rabbinic commentary on the web... but it's hard to find a balance. Many Orthodox people believe in going beyond the spirit of the law though, i.e. on Passover there are some Orthodox families that will ferment their own wine in order to not bring in any food from the outside into their home. It's nice to see services that cater specifically to the Orthodox community to get them to start to open up to the possibilities that the Internet provides for.

Giraffe... technically. The rabbis just don't know exactly where on the neck to slaughter it.

all religion sucks and only serves to make your life more difficult
the end

There have been Christian search engines/ filters since I can remember...
I grew up in a Xtian home that used one haha

I wonder if they can make me some software that filters out all the stupid.

I've always hated all religious things and stupidity involved, it just suck. Though looking into the history can be somewhat interesting.

Religious fundamentalists, next thing you know they will be calling for a ban on the things they deem inappropriate and the Dark Ages start all over again.

Religious people need to be treated the same as people with psychological damage, drugged, locked up, ignored.

If you don't use this search engine you are an anti-semite.

Anti-Religious people need to be treated the same as people with psychological damage, drugged, locked up, and ignored.

Your statement is only a good thing as long as you are in the majority.

Although I suspect your simply trolling.

Yes lets lock up those who dare suggest the earth is not the center of the universe, and everything revolves around it.

Troll much?

You are the exact same when you call for such acts.

Perhaps you should read my post and attempt to understand it before replying.

You do realize this logic was illustrated in vengeances post? I am simply illustrating the failure of it.

....

The fact that majority rules should not take away the rights of the minority was the entire point of my post.

Um guess yall didn't get what I was saying, yes trollish etc.

It is silly to think that people must use "safe for xyz religion" search engines to avoid sin when sin in itself requires intent according to most religious texts, thus running across something sinful on accident wouldn't count.

That's funny because from what I read, that's not what you said. You said people with religious beliefs should be locked up. It's quite plain as day.

But hey what do I know? My reading comprehension probably sucks.
