I picked up a mammorth CRT from a buddy who couldn't fix it.

KV-40XBR800 its a 40" sony crt. Great picture when using a bluray/hdvd/oppo dvd player via HDMI/DVI cable

My htpc looks like shit on component.

I can't get it to display using the dvi/hdcp port on the back of the display

Ive tried using a geforce 8500GT made by palit, and a 8400gs asus i believe(from the ebay deal)

Im VNC'd into the machine and it says the HDCP link is okay..

Is this an HDCP issue? I haven't had a single problem when outputting to my projectors from this htpc.

Would really love this working better for some couch bumming sessions.

Never really dealt with a real TV and my htpcs :|

If it's a CRT, more than likely it wasn't HDCP certified.

The KV-40XBR800 has HDCP.

In any case hdcp shouldn't be an issue for basic video display. Can you see the computer bootup process? If so, when does video shut off? Is the HD8400/8500 set as default display device in both BIOS and Windows? When VNC'd into the machine is the television detected? If so what resolutions are shown? The TV should support 480i/p, 720p and 1080i. Honestly, 720p via component should work.
