Okay, there is a udp multicast avalible from my isp. I can view it fine when my computer is plugged into the dsl modem directly or through a swich, however when i try to view the stream through my router, the stream is unwatchable. it kindof plays, but i'm not getting even half of the full stream. the stream should be about 3mbps, the most i'm receiving is about 500kbps.

What's the router doing thats messing this up so bad? How can I fix this?

nope, no the problem.

update: the stream plays fine on my wired computers, its on the laptop it doesnt work...

Have you ran bandwith tests between your wired and wireless connections? Download Iperf, and run it to test.

What model router? Latest firmware on that router? Try changing channels if using the wireless, possible interference with neighboring WLANs?

The connection doesnt seem to be slow for other things. (I havent ran the test yet, I'll do it right away).

Its a Linksys wrt54gc, new firmware, and its on channel 4. I've only seen like one or two access points on channel 4 in my city anyway...so thats not it.
