Laptop for generic non-power user?

My friend is looking for a nice stable laptop mainly just to play movies, listen to music, download stuff...haha, very generic!

But it shouldn't be such a cheap bare-bone model. He wants it fast too.
And a stylish sleek look also matters to him

Any recommendations?

He's considering this 17" HP

the cheapest dell vostro on the site should be under 400. if he wants to spend 800 you can tack on upgrades.
