LCD Software?

[Frustrated]

A while ago i got the guts of an alphasmart 3000. For the past few days ive been trying to get this thing hooked up to show temps, etc. However, im have some difficulty finding a program that will transfer data TO the device. I looked it up, and it said that you can *purchase* a program(get utility) that you can transfer text to the device with, so im sure that it accepts text. However, ive tried LCDC and that doesnt detect the LCD when its plugged in. Does anyone know other programs that might work, or another solution?

It'll take some effort to drive it with that board. However the LCD itself looks like a 4x40 HD44780 display in which case you can wire it to LPT and use LCDsmartie or other common character LCD apps to drive it easily.
