i really cant express how much i hate all 3 of them.

heres my 3 cents...

valve - fucking reatards that sit on thier ass doing nothing... (when they coud be making a video game)
steam - shity ass program that also have retards working for it
gabe - also sits on his ass eating fried chicken watching us cry when we see half life 2 is delayed again. also singing his song;"...if your having H.L. 2 problems i feel bad for you son, but i got 99 problems but you aint one..."

Dear everyone who's bitching about this:

Valve are fuckups. We got the memo already. You're not exactly telling us anything new, Captain Obvious. Still, they'll get the game done eventually, and it will probably be as good as the first one (though very, very late.) Until then, play something else and wait it out like the rest of us.

At least they're not 3DRealms.
 
It's a beta for this reason. Only thing is, when they attempt to roll out an update, it'll utilize more bandwidth.

Well you have to realize that they are making a game...im sure thats not easy to do...the only thing that i think anyone can be mad at them for is lying aobut the release dates...just be honest with us...but i dont think they are sitting around doing nothing

I think everyone should take a class on game programming. Im about to get a degree in it. I have lots of respect for any game programmer. Most people dont have the faintest idea of how extremly complex and complicated it is to make a game. Yet they sit in their chairs at home late at night after coming home from working their minimum wage job and think they have the right to pick on someone who is doing somthing more complicated on a daily basis then they probably do in a year.

There is a reason why it takes 4 years and over 10 million to make a single game.. if you had half a brain and really thought about that then you would understand its not easy.. and not just anyone can do it.

BTW what do you do for a living? If its anything respectible and greater than a minimum wage job then i bet you would be pissed off if some kid came online yelling about how much you sucked because you dont do your job right, when they have no idea on earth what your job entails.

Anyways im sure the 1st thing im going to hear back from you is "Fuck you Frozen You suck to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111111" :rolleyes:

oh and one more thing.. since im thinking about it. Give me some Network Theroy on how you would create a system that could handle bandwidth/content/security/Real Time Chat/Game integration for a million plus people and keep the lag around 100ms for everyone.

You know since all this game programming stuff is easy and the people at Valve are stupid. You probably dont know the 1st thing about how a network operates, let alone writing software for it.

Again im sure im giong to get some response like "Frozen Sucks / Steam Sucks " somthing like that insted of an educated response. Give me an educated response insted of your ranting and raving and then ill listen to you. Until then, nobody cares if you have to sit at home waiting for a game you claim you hate

seriously shutup. do you REALLY think that these people just sit around? i mean c'mon. valve is working on a brand new very advanced engine, and have experienced setbacks along the way, and steam is also a revolutionary platform for game distribution.

I would start off with a brilliant algorithm that load balances all packets against real time network performance watchdogs then nukes any morons it detects on the network....its late i know....
 
well one thing is true, valve does have poor planning, they admitted it themselves. and a company like valve that makes awesome games with poor planning leads to pissed off gamers. they really could improve in this aspect by simply giving less dates for events.

There is a difference between anticipation and lying...Doom III was anticipated, but HL2 is just a sharade. And you are just as much a 'tard' as we are because you are reading and posting in the same threads. And I havent even heard someone say 'tard' since it was cool in 7th grade.

That was id. Bungie did the same for a while, but this year they said it'd be released on Nov. 9. Hell, one of the Xbox business managers even got the date tattooed on his arm. :eek:

Anyway, Valve should've just kept their mouths shut until they knew how far along they were. I have a very easy time believing that ATI demanded they push the September 30th date to sell more cards, even after they knew the date was shot to hell.
 
Valve = Awsome.

I can't see myself judging a game company soly because they delayed a video game. I know that valve as a good repuation for making great games, and HL2 looks as it might be one of the best games to date when its released. Thats what its all about, making great games. Who cares if its delayed, won't it be worth it when it comes out? Think about how long we've know about Doom 3, and finally it came out, and it was so worth the wait. I can wait for a great game, I would rather wait then to have the rushed it out and have it turn out like poop. And what you have to remember, valve is still a young and fairly small company, they are gonna make mistakes.

Edit - Oh and even big compaines make mistakes, look at nVidia and the FX series, how come no one is mad at them? They even admitted to making a major mistake with the FX series.

I personally would like a good, finished game to come late, rather than a poor, unfinished game come when promised. Anyone who has EVER used a SOE product knows exactly what I'm talking about I'm sure...

But I just wanted to add something to frozen's statment. I am getting a degree in computer animation, and looking to get in the gaming industry. I have no idea how the programming works or how long it takes. But I do know how long it takes to model a character in 3d. Not to mention textureing it and rigging it. It takes a while to get a finished product. From what I under stand, valve only has a hand full of artists working on HL2, that alone would take a while to complete, let alone the progamming on top of that. So I hope that when im working for a game company that you guys won't yell at me for not working fast enough. I don't take yelling to well and might end up jumping out the window. :p

Be patient.

True and true. "it's done when it's done" with the occasional screenshots would have keep everyone anticipated. It worked for Doom 3.

However, Valve felt they had to set the BS release date last September 2003 to promote for ATI. The result, much less anticipation for the game, and, a lot of pissed off last generation ATI video card owners.

The question is though, did Valve need the money they received for promoting ATI, in order to finish the game, or was it just an extra several million in pocket change?
 
I don't hate Valve, I'm not tailoring my life around the release of HL2, and I'm don't have unrealistic expectations from a game company. I understand the workload difference between a good game and an awesome game. However, there is no getting around Valve's "public face" problems. Team Fortress 2 PR, Halflife2 PR, Steam, etc. I think they buckled from the onslaught of millions of sweaty nerds screaming "WHEN, WHEN!"
