Hello, new to the forum and not very tech savvy. I just got done playing some Halo 3 on my buddy's HD Lcd tv and now I HAVE to get something that's gonna make my games look better that they do now on my regular tv. My big problem is that I don't have the money right now to drop on the kind of tv that I would want. So I'm looking into getting a 22"-24" computer monitor to hold me over. This is where I need some advice. I'm slightly familiar with some of the features that would best suite my needs (gaming on the 360 and regular internet pc use) but I was looking for some input from folks who already play the 360 on a monitor, gamers and geeks with experience doing so. My main concern is to get the best look for my 360 games at under around $400.

I was looking this at 2 monitors not sure which one to get

Get a display that is NATIVE res at either 1280x720 or 1920x1080, that way, you can output 720p or 1080p to the display and make that 360 look nice.

I had the same issue. My thread is at http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1260607

I had to do a lot of learning about the different types of panels (TN, MVA, IPS, etc) and ways that displays dealt with 360 input. It seems that my best bet is the Westinghouse L2410NM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824255001&Tpk=westinghouse+24%22) which has HDMI input, 1900x1200 native resolution, aspect ratio correction for 1080p, and a non-TN panel for a reasonable price.

There's a huge thread on this monitor that lists various downsides that people have come up with, but none of them seem to be universal, and none are deal-breakers.

Good luck with your search!

I read ur thread which monintor u end with up? or are u still waiting for decision?

One more question about monitor i get samsung 22 inch i post link above i can play on 720p right?considering most of the xbox 360 game are used 720p will there be big difference in picture quality from going to 720p to 1080p?

$400? Why not wait and save up for LCD TV. I just bought a Samsung 37" for $850 after tax and I'm loving it. I had my 360 hooked up to a Dell 2407WFP-HC prior to getting the Samsung. How big are you wanting to go in the future? There is a Samsung 42" Plasma TV for $900 right now at Frys. Unless you're wanting a TV that's $2000, why hold onto the $400 and buy a TV later this year? The prices are only going to go down. Just my humble opinion.

cause i dont want really that big because i allready said in my first post i will be using this monitor for my computer and xbox 360 so there be will lot of switching around for multiple use.

last question before I purchased my lcd monitor just to be sure.
if I get an 24 inch monitor can I run xbox 360 in 1080p mode without stretching the screen? so basically I am trying to say if its 24inch monitor has 1920 x 1200 resolution but xbox 360 does 1080p means 1920×1080 resolution right? if thats right screen definitely going to be stretches out little. I dont see any point of buying a 24 inch if that problem occurs but what about 22 inch monitor I know its doesnt support 1920x 1200 resolution. it has native resolution 1680x1050 so I'm pretty sure much my xbox 360 going to be using 720p display mode on 22inch monitor right? or is the screen going to stretche out 2?

I have the P241W (same specs) and it looks great, but it doesn't let you maintain aspect ratio so you end up with 1920x1080 stretched vertically to 1920x1200. It doesn't bother me, but for some people it's a deal breaker. I do have one complaint, it doesn't like to switch from DVI to HDMI if there is an active signal on the DVI port. Easily worked around, but still a little annoying.

Also there is a Newegg newletter promo code for that monitor (EMCABCECF) for free shipping.

I have a 22" acer with a 1680x1050 native resolution. It streches the picture when set to 720p, but surprisingly enough if I set the Xbox to 1920x1080 the monitor handles the single and reports the resolution at 1920x1050.

Wow, he could get the Dynex 32" 720P HDTV for $550. Xbox 360 and the Wii look AMAZING with it.

How do you plan to get audio out of the 360?

If you go with a display that supports HDMI audio and will output the audio to a decent set of speakers and/or redirect audio out via a headphone jack, it won't matter.

If you plan to go with left/right or optical audio out (and you don't own the Elite), you'll either need the MS HDMI A/V kit or you'll have to take a screwdriver to your monitor cable casing if you want audio out.

If you go VGA from the 360, it's a non-issue as the VGA cable does audio out.

Stretching varies from monitor to monitor. My NEC AccuSync LCD24WMCX does proper aspect ratio. It also handles HDMI audio, 1080p over Component, and has a headphone-out jack that I have a proper set of speakers hooked to (automatically mutes the internal speakers). Unfortunately, it's a TN panel so if you're not right in front of it you'll notice, but if you are it's not a big deal. I have my gaming PC (VGA), 360 (Component), PS3 (HDMI), and main PC (DVI-D) hooked to it.
