I have a Silver Stone LC-14 B HTPC Case and as you can see from the link it uses the smaller 60MM fans  (hey I got this can from a friend for free as he cut the hell out of it EX: the back and the front fan grilles are missing and the case is all scratched up 2 of the 4 front USB ports are broken). I currently have 3 case fans in there 2X delta 60 MM blowing outEFB0612HHA

and one Everflow F129025SL 92MM 18 CFM 23.4 DBA (Silver Stone Stock Fan) is there any thing I can do to quiet this case down as it is currently very loud I also have the chipset,GPU,CPU, and the PSU 2 Fans running so a total of 8 fans do I even need the case fans on with all of those other fans?. I'm thinking about selling this case and getting an LC-20 how are those? I know they use 80MM fans which can be more quieter Thanks

The first thing you should have done was to replace the chipset cooler with a passive one.

Are you using the stock AMD heatsink? If so then replace that too cause they suck for an HTPC due to how damn noisy they are (I've had one, they really suck when it comes to noise).

Replace the case fans (cause Delta fans are nowhere near "quiet").

You might want to replace the cooler on your video card cause those can be really noisy too. You might be able to run it passively with the V-1.

That should help and "no" buying an LC20 isn't going to change matters, you'll still have to quiet down your chosen parts and you'll have to undervolt the stock fans cause they're rather noisy at stock voltage.

Or get $15 worth of cables from monoprice and move the thing to a closet or basement.

Agreed with above posts. First things first is probably to quiet down those 60mm fans. However, beware: I like to quiet down my components one by one. So, I would not recommend changing your chipset cooler and case fans at once. I say change your hardware in the order of noisiest to quietest. That makes it easier to diagnose any potential problems.

I'd like to think a computer 5-10 feet away in a closet would make it considerably more quiet.

My OCD forces me to point out that the computer itself is not more quiet only harder to hear. (6 of one, half dozen of another I suppose)

Besides won't heat build up if it's in a closet?

More importantly is he suppose to go to the closet when every he wants to watch a DVD?

Come on.

Are we really that lazy? Do you not have to get up and switch discs in your DVD player?
Don't be obtuse. Would you put your 360 in the closet just to quiet it down?

Like I said, that doesn't solve the problem. All it does is make things more difficult when it comes to things like WAF.

right some times putting it in the closet isn't what you want. The loudest thing in my case in the frickin' fan on the video card, right now it's going out, it was loud before but you should hear it now. It makes this loud grinding noise. So anyway I would get a fanless card next time. Put in a couple of fans that Crim suggested, personally i would wait on the CPU fan, every else just seems so much louder then that.

Well, mine is on a shelf in the basement just below the TV. I have the DVD drive in a USB enclosure and the IR sensor is almost hidden on the tv stand. I'm particular about things being quiet when I watch movies, so for me, this was the best way to do it. I was able to use existing computer parts, and I can't hear anything in quiet parts of movies, or when the tv is off and I'm just reading a book. I'm just throwing the idea out because I don't think many people think of this option. I understand this isn't going to be the best or even a viable option for everyone.

This seems like a job for watercooling... if you can find a good place to hide a 3x120mm rad on your average HTPC.

Anyone got any pics of WC'ed HTPCs?

"More importantly is he suppose to go to the closet when every he wants to watch a DVD?

Come on. "

Most people keep AV items in some sort of enclosure. Is walking about 10 feet to a closet going to make a big difference?

Noob question, I have just installed a rheobus fan controller for 4 fans. If I turn the knobs to the furthest left (I'm guessing the rheobus feeds less power to the fans) will it damage my fans if they're unable to continue spinning or if they are spinning a slower rate?

i remember way back when i had a shuttle, I read that certain fans won't start after 5v, but if they're sitting there not moving while < 5v is being offerred, will the fans or power connectors be damaged?
