Losing IP Lease

I recently changed from using an old PC as my firewall/router to using a typical SOHO router for my home network. At first I tried using a Netgear MR314, which I had been using as an access point for months now. However, I began to lose connectivity after 4 or 5 hours.

Thinking it was the router, I replaced it with an SMC 7004VBR, which I had used in the past without trouble. That too, has the same connectivity issue. However, it actually has logs which revealed that periodically it wasn't able to renew it's IP. In fact, I have manually do it, and it takes a few tries. The logs show that when it can't contact the DHCP server, it just drops the IPs from the WAN interface.

I've tried powering off the modem, and router for a while, and turning them back on. However, that didn't solve the issue. I even tried cloning the MAC address of the original firewall.

Any ideas?
