LUA arrays/structs?

Is there any way to ether create a two-dimensional array or an array of structs in LUA?
I want to store sets of values and then be able to assign each value in a particular set to a varaible. I've read that you can put tables inside of tables in LUA, is it possible to do it that way?

Does http://www.lua.org/pil/11.2.html help? I don't know LUA, but it's documentation on multi-dimensional arrays
