Hi everyone,

I'm looking into getting a large external hard drive, ~1tb - 1.5tb, and was wondering what the best way to format it is for use on both a mac and a pc. HFS+ is read/write only on a mac, and I don't think windows will ever be able to use it. FAT32 is too old and slow. Is NTFS my only option? How stable are the FUSE drivers on OS X?

PS. why isn't there some modern cross platform standard?
 
I think FAT32 is going to be your best (only?) option.
It is old, but then again so is NTFS. It's not as slow as you think it is, sometimes it's faster than NTFS because it doesn't have to deal with security and streams.
