They lowered the price and now include it for the combo! It worked in the cart, ASUS 990FX Pro from $144 to $104.

Hrm, I'm torn. On one hand, I have the itch and an 8320 would be a change. On the other hand, I don't think it would be an upgrade. Might be better to pick up another 7970 instead.

How would these compare, gaming wise, to an i5 3570K? What about power usage and heat (also compared to an i5 3570K)?

In most games I found the 8350 comparable to the 2600k... I know the internet review says otherwise, but it's a decent chip (the Vishera that is)

I think I'm going to pick up the 8320 FX + Asrock 970 Extreme 4 for 199.99.

That's a heck of a deal. Thanks OP.

hmm would it be worth the 60 bucks in gas to drive to dallas to pick this up

Anantech article shows idle consumption
@ 57.5 for 3570k and @ 73.2 for 8320FX
Difference = 15.7 watts @ idle.

Full load H.264 HD encoding
@ 101.3 for 3570k and @ 185.4 for 8320FX
Difference = 84.1 watts @ full load

From the article:
"Intel's 77W Core i5 3570K is targeted by AMD as the FX-8350's natural competitor.
The 8350 is priced lower and actually outperforms the 3570K in this test, but it draws significantly more power:"

IMO if you're going to run your PC full load 24/7 and want your electric bill the lowest it can be go for the 3570k.

IMO If you don't run your PC full load 24/7 go with AMD.

wish i knew someone in socal so i could paypal them the funds and they could ship me one :(

fucking fry's bullshit distance based pricematching pisses me off argh!

then again i did read that best buy price matches stuff long as it says low price guarantee on the site on a ymmy basis since its not in store.....nah

Or Micro-ATX. Built a 2nd media PC and wanted to try AMD over there, but was forced to go with Intel, because their is no 990x/990FX/970x boards in Micro-ATX or Mini-ITX. Real shortminded of AMD.

I'm going to guess not, because once you spend all that gas money plus sales tax it will be pretty damn close in price to buying this off Amazon or elsewhere.

In terms of mobos in smaller form factors. I don't know if its as much of AMD's fault as mobo makers not wanting to bother with them. Sure there is a market for it, but they probably don't think the number is high enough to justify making any.

I'm pretty sure its a power limitation, not artificially inflicted by AMD. The 8-core chips need so much power, especially when OC'd, that they can't fit the power systems beefy enough for them on itx and mATX boards. I am surprised that we haven't seen any 970 series 95w limit mATX boards for the 4 and 6-core cpus though.

Which media PC function isn't available with FM2? mATX or ITX.

The A10-5800K performs like an FX 4300, and that's not as powerful as the FX 8320 or 8350 but it's legitimate.

And that's before Richland is released.

Or is this some sort of $1,000+ rig with the 670 Mini in it?

The best AM3+ micro atx board I have seen is the 78LMT-USB3 from Gigabyte but it's not like I have done extensive research either.

http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4305#ov

pros: 4+1 phase, heatsinked VRM area, 125W cpu support, USB 3.0, 4 RAM slots, even has IDE, low price
cons: older 760G chipset, no 140W support listed (965 C2) so you probably can't overclock a 125W cpu much if at all

Yes, microcenter stores typically carry this so I am still somewhat on topic.

It's an elaborate plot by AMD to have physical space for Crossfire and sell more video cards!

Sure it would be nice to see the 970 boards with 6+2 or 8+2 shrunk down. But since NZXT and Corsair aren't even in the smaller-chassis market that says something.
