Microsoft applies for scalable console patent

My guess is if it is for the 720 it will be an upgrade to the system that will allow streaming to be of a better quality. But, I am actually going to assume it is not intended to be for the new system. Seems a bit late to be adding things to the design if it really will launch in a little over 1 year...
 
Looks like this was filed in 2009, so it could very well be for the Xbox Infinity.

Personally, I think it could be cool to be able to upgrade your console (via expensive proprietary hardware upgrades, mind you). Hopefully they would be able to introduce the upgrades without segmenting their userbase (ala Sega 32x or Sega CD).

I guess all of the games could still be made to work on a base model Infinity (your core pack), whereas playing the same games on an upgraded console (your elite pack) would run the game with high-res textures, faster load times, etc.
