Mobo says DDR400 safe to run DDR500?

My asrock p4v88 says ddr400, I want new memory adn wanted to get some ddr500 will it be ok to run in the board? I was thinking the 500 for a little more headroom while overclocking.

The DDR500 will be useless unless you can OC your processor's bus to 250MHz. If you can, then go ahead.

Or you can crank the FSB up and lower the CPU mult. Not sure if the ASRocks are stable at 250 FSB, though they probably are.

if you can set vdimm to 3.3 volts in your bios (im sure you cant tho cuz its asrock) then this ram will run ddr 500 @ 2-2-2-8, and those are sweet timings.

that VX is a bit costly, and i don't know if his mobo supports high vdimm

i vote ballistix for cheap ram that can oc well. i'll be getting one in from newegg to see how the new sticks really do.
