Morrowind - Mastrius *sorta spoiler?*

I was roaming around Morrowind and I came across the tomb containing Mastrius. At first I thought he was hostile and didn't see me, so I slowly shut the door and buffed myself out with a bunch of potions and racial (Berserk, since i'm an Orc), raised my Cloudcleaver and ran in guns blazing AND..

He didn't attack..

So I talked to him and he didn't say anything in particular, but the unfortunate part is when you engage in dialogue it releases your attack. So I exited dialogue and cleaved his face off. The ebony gear is quite a nice upgrade from Steel but I'm wondering if (after reading who he is) this would have any impact on that particular quest line?

Also, shouldn't he have been more difficult? I mean, he was wearing ebony. I did buff up but still, he didn't have a chance. I was only level 5 and he's a whopping 29. Difficulty setting is at default.

Looks like you can't start his quest

Unless you use console to find a way around reviving him and, if necessary, resetting the quest line.
