I'm badly needing to upgrade my video card, my 260 GTX is starting to show its age.

The 7950 is going to be hitting the market in just over a week and it looks to be a very attractive single-card solution for mid-range systems. But does anyone have predictions or leaked information on what the retail price is going to be at launch?

So I guess a $350 price point is an unrealistic expectation on my part?

Highly.

Since the 7970 retails for $550, there's no way I see the 7950 coming in under $400. I agree with Daggah that $450 is likely to be the number.

Looks like I'll be grabbing a used 6950 for cheap then, it'll be much easier to justify the cost to the wife that way. :p

Thanks for making the decision easier!

From what I read before it was something like,

1.5GB 7950 - $399
3GB 7950 - $449

If the 7970 is quite a good deal faster than a GTX 580, I think it's safe for me to assume a 7950 will be on par with a GTX 580, which would be a steal at $399 vs $499 for the 580 for the 1.5GB model.

i think this is a decent assumption. my guess is nvidia lowers the price of 580's the day these cards are released.

I will admit I'll be upset if the 7950 can be unlocked to be a 7970 like what happened with the 69xx cards.

Then again, I suspect the 7950s won't have nearly as much OC headroom as they'll probably be chips that couldn't make the 7970 cut?

yeah i don't think any of us would be happy with that, of course with the understanding that that's the sacrifice of being an early adopter.

As VR-Zone was proven wrong with the 7970 selling for $549 instead of $449 and the other sites were proved correct, the 7950 will probably be $449 for the 3GB version and $399 for the 1.5GB version. The 7890 1.5GB (which otherwise would be called a 7930 as it uses the same GPU) will be in the neighborhood of $349-$379.

buy a used 6970 from the f/s forum and bank the rest of the cash instead of going with a 3GB 7950. I think it would have similar performance, yet be much cheaper unless you want to save up for a 7970.

I know its a virtual impossibility, but how crazy would it be if AMD dropped the 7950 at $399 and also dropped the 7970 to $499 for that launch? Would be sweet if it could.

Yea why not :) one can dream right? a 2GB 6970 is in the low $300s, I'll assume it's half way between the 6970 and 7970 in terms of performance so $399 seems like a good price.
I"m in for two at 449, 399 would be better of course. But think it will go up against the GTX 580...and they are anywhere from 470 to 550 right now, so 449 seems about right too me...unfortunately.

is there going to be a 1.5GB 7970?

It could go like.... $549/449 $399/$329 ?

:p The GTX 580 can't maintain it's current price, it has no value what so ever vs the 7970 :S

Well...my problem is I have instabuy syndrome, and can never wait until prices go down XD

I'm getting "No such product!" I don't know about everyone else

Found it here http://www.pccanada.com/viewitem.asp?id=37646

They took down the link. It was there and going for $480 preorder. (Gigabyte 7950) I guess I should have taken a screenshot. :)

The specs are what e.g. fudzilla was predicting. 3GB, 17xx shaders(can't remember the exact count), 384 bit.

Basically I believe that proves the $449 price point, $30 extra for preorder. ($480)

the gigabyte was 480 because it was oced 100mhz- reference runs at 800mhz the gigabyte was clocked at 900mhz, videocardz.com has what looks to be accurate 3dmark scores and a 7950 oced runs on par with a 7970 at stock clocks. At stock speeds it scores identically to a 580, you can bet on 430 bucks for a 3gb-reference design, companies like sapphire, gigabyte and powercolor will charge a premium for their cooling designs

Curious, do you think the price would go down by the time Ivy Bridge comes around or is that unlikely?

The 7950 will be priced lower than the 7970.:D
The 7990 will not.:p
