HI, in few days I will get new pc with Sapphire HD 7770. My question is next:
Could I connect Dell U2311 with DisplayPort cable video only (through mini dp to dp adapter), then use another mini dp with mini dp to hdmi to Panasonic 50ST50 to have video & audio on tv and use hdmi to connect Onkyo avr 706 for HD audio (video too) through hdmi?
Would that work with two different audio streams? It wont be at same time of course.
Thanks in advance.

It would depend on the program. Some can specify a specific output device (MPC-HC and XBMC come to mind), most will just use the default DirectSound device however. With some very deliberate choices in software, you have a fighting chance.

MPC-HC for example can use whatever sound cards is chosen in options menu. I saw AMD's white paper for display and they mention multiple audio outputs via DP 1.2 from the same gpu card but don't know if that can work with adapter in before mention scenario.

Eyefinity 2 is supposed to be able to output separate audio to each connection. Not sure if it's supported yet, though. I've never seen a review where they've actually tested it out.

Good on paper not in real world. Even with mini dp to hdmi 7770 would only give one audio out. For aditional 6 outputs I must use dp capable device. No chance for my tv or avr. It will be dp for monitor, dvi + analogue for tv and hdmi for avr.

yeah you can do 2 separate audio sources but it all depends on what the software supports like cl-scott said. if you can't manually select what audio source you want the application to use it will always select the default audio source set in windows.

if it doesn't work for you even though it should it would be easier to do mini DP to HDMI to receiver then HDMI from receiver to the TV which the receiver should support perfectly fine.

I can choose audio out in player but I don't get more than one hdmi audio out. It is either Panasonic tv or Onkyo avr. I can't do pc > avr > tv with hdmi cause tv is but avr is not 3D.

It's been a while... Eyefinity 2 and DDMA, separete audio out from one gpu... still not working in my system. Anybody has info or solution?

You can control the default audio output device in the Windows Playback Devices control panel, and that will be respected by pretty much all apps.

What I don't think will work is if you want to kill video to the device but keep audio - I'm pretty sure if you disable the display device that the audio path goes dark with it. Otherwise, if you're using both displays, you should be fine and it will work the way you'd expect once you select the default playback device in Windows.

Problem I have so far is that only one audio out is working from Sapphire HD7770. I have Dell U2311 with DP cable (no audio), hdmi to avr Onkyo 706 and mini DP ti hdmi to tv plasma Panasonic 50ST50. Even if I connect avr to mini DP to hdmi and tv straight to hdmi from gpu I have only one audio out working. If I don't use hdmi then audio works from mini DP to hdmi. As mentioned before I have listed 6 audio out from AMD in sound panel but only hdmi get connected status, other remain unplugged even there is cable in connector.

windows 7 spits out audio over one port at a time without additional software. (limitation due to legal issues?)

this software allows me to output sounds to multiple ports simultaneously.

1) Create one virtual audio cable. Is already created after install, it is called "Virtual Cable 1". You don't have to modify anything.
2) Run "Audio Repeater (KS)" from Start menu.
3) In the Wave In combo select "Virtual Cable 1".
4) In the Wave Out combo select [FIRST OF YOUR HDMI/DP OUT].
5) Click Start
6) Run an additional "Audio Repeater (KS)" from Start menu.
7) In the Wave In combo select "Virtual Cable 1" again.
8) In the Wave Out combo select [SECOND OF YOUR HDMI/DP/SPEAKERS OUT].
9) Click Start
10) In the windows control panel, sound, set default audio device to (Line 1, Virtual Audio Cable, something similar)
11) Play audio, trial version reminds you that its a trial.
12) Stop the individual repeaters and tweak the buffer sizes to match up the audio timing.

My problem is that second device is not active in sound panel. When I conenct plasma tv to hdmi and avr to mini dp (with mini dp > hdmi adapter) second device is "not plugged in". It is the same id tv goes to mini dp and avr to hdmi out. If I conenct first to mini dp then audio is going through mini dp and hdmi audio out is none. If hdmi is connected fisrt then there is no mini dp audio out. Picture goes to all 3 devices (monitor, avr, tv) without issues.

set up first audio repeater with dp primarily occupied, set up second audio repeater with hdmi primarily occupied.

Its a method/attempt to bypass the unplugging to check if the video card will do it.

Graphic card wont activate anu dp audio out through mini dp > hdmi adapter. In any case audio is available through hdmi controller port, meaning only one audio stream.

graphics card hardware limitation then, sound card or onboard audio?

what about the option to pick a non-dp or non-hdmi audio out and send all sound through the avr.

and then send the video wherever you want it?
whatever 3d video player software you have almost certainly has the option to introduce a buffer on the audio to sync things up.
