My Book 640 USB failed!

I think my, My Book 640GB USB drive failed. I ran the diag's and it came up with a read error. I just did a backup, but it failed. Anything else I should do. I am going to try it on my notebook, and I did try a different usb cable. Argh, not happy.

Take the drive out of the case and try to mount it inside a computer through the actual SATA bus that's on the drive (as they're just desktop drives inside a casing).

Of course, this eliminates any possibility of RMA as it voids your warranty (yet another reason why I don't like buying pre-pacakged external hard drives), but this method may work as a last resort to eliminate the possibility of the USB controller being the culprit rather than the drive itself.

Hopefully, you kept backups.

It was the backup drive. I am going to swap it, or get my money back on it. Normally they are really good drives, so I am kinda disappointed, but not sure what to do. It might be the USB controler on it, but there isn't much else I can do about it. Thanks for your advice.
