Need advice on my upgrade

i am currently using an IPS Dell 2209w and i love this monitor! but i want higher resolutions. should i go for the U2312 or any other suggestions? i am planning to use my 2209w as an secondary (vertical). I use my computer mostly for gaming. also, i will runing either a 570gtx or 580. thanks
 
Well for starters you can tell us what your current monitor supports since not all of us know dells stuff, but I'm going to go off an a hunch and assume its runs either 1600x900 16:9 or 1680x1050 16:10. If you are running this then you're wanting to upgrade to a 1080P monitor if my guess is right. Well for me I'm running a Samsung 2333 ws and it cost around $220 2 years ago. If dell is your preferred brand, Then not much i can tell you, but if your willing to try other brands, i hear Acer, NEC, Samsung have some good 23" monitors, some are even LED based.
 
i have a 24 inch acer and the price is affordable, and i get no ghosting in games. ive had this one for ov er 5-6 years. they have a fast rma program as well.

Do you mean 2209WA, the IPS 22" with 1680x1050 resolution release around January 2009?

If so:

For 16:9 and 23", a Dell U2312HM should be good for you, for 16:10 and 24" a U2412M should be.

thanks for your suggestion. which one is better for gaming?
im also interested in a 27" dell is way out of my budget. what is the best 27" out there for gaming? under 500

I prefer the U2412M ever-so-slightly because it's 16:10 so you get more vertical text.

For gaming they are both quite good.
 
going from 22" 1680x1050 to 23" 1920x1080 is not much improvement. Now 24" 1920x1200 is much better as it's bigger in both H and V dimensions :)

also going from 16:10 to 16:9 is like punch in face so it's better to avoid those "1080p" displays ;)

thank you! i think i will get that instead. but for 27" which one is the best for gaming right now? and an affordable price also. i am not looking forward to 3d gaming right now
 
just got a 580gtx. what monitor should i run it on? i want something 24"-27! mainly for gaming!

Out of IPS monitors, it is among the fastest, and as close as you can get to TN speeds, so whomever is saying that doesn't own one, or is DigitalVersus.com :)

In fact, outside of maybe a couple popular TN panels, the U2412M is faster than most 60hz TNs..

If the U2412M doesn't pass muster why not go 120hz and get something like the Planar SA2311W, Asus VG236HE, or Samsung S23A750?

All decent TN screens and have come down in price lately. If I were going 23" and 120hz these are the ones I'd consider.

thanks for the reply. i/m actually thinking about getting a 27" or something smaller with 120hz refresh rate. without thinking much, i went ahead and purchased the ViewSonic VA2702W, but it is back ordered, i have a feeling this monitor won't be that great for gaming but the price for that size is such a steal. i could still cancel now and get something else, but there is just way to much decisions!
What is the best 120hz for an 24"? my budget is acutally 250-380
should i just forget it all and go for the U2412M?
my main purpose of getting a new monitor is FPS gaming. sorry if i repeated myself!

The 2410 is also 2ms faster by paper specs - plus a slight upgrade in color accuracy - another monitor for the OP to consider.
