I just moved to a new place, but will move again after the summer. So i don't want to wire the house up now. I need a good PCI adapter than can go through 2 walls, about 15 -20 feet away from the router. I have a Linksys router. I'll be playing COD: BO, and a bit of DOTA. Also, I am running on Windows 7.
I'm not sure what else information I need to give you guys, so please feel free to guide me.

-What router specifically do you have? Model number and revision is good
-What motherboard/laptop do you have and what slots are available?

This is a little bit more but it provides a much more solid solution that wireless. Powerline ethernet adapters are just an awesome method of connecting different rooms behind the same electrical panel easily, quickly, securely, and reliably.

http://www.dlink.ca/products/?pid=765 - just one example, I use these and find them to be pretty slick. I get full 10/100 speeds out of them and compared to the others I have tried they run EXTREMELY cool which I find to be a plus.

Just food for thought!

In addition I have a Radeon 4890HD GPU, with Ripjaws 4 gb ram,
The home I live in now isn't mine. So I can't do any modification to the house at this time. I hear a lot of bad reviews for USB, so I'm trying to steer away from that.

Good call on the USB - they are pretty terrible

This is a pretty good cheaper unit, I have used them in around 15 different applications and they worked very well with WRT54GL's for speed negotiation etc. If you do buy it DO NOT use the ASUS software just use the Windows wireless utility with an ASUS driver.

Regarding the powerline adapters they don't modify anything. Take a look at this review:

I assume you're running open source firmware on your router? I'd get a second router that supports the same firmware and put it into bridge mode. It beats most wireless adapters hands down for transfer rates and range, and is much more versatile.

Not sure how to really do that. But seems to be more expensive and hassle buying another router than buying just an plug and play PCI adapter, IMO

Sorry about the late reply, been a bit nutty at work

Powerline adapters plug into a wall socket and using higher frequency that your power (power is 60Hz) transmits data through your wall sockets. They work remarkably well and require zero configuration to get going out of the box. The adapters themselves have an ethernet jack on them and when you plug them in they find each other and sync up a data connection. Plug one end into a LAN port on your router and the other adapter into your xBox and you have a solid 10/100 connection.

Only thing to note is that you have to plug these adapters straight into a wall outlet, you can't have them in a powerbar or they don't work properly.

They are just amazing pieces of hardware, there is no reason to run wireless room to room with these things around if you don't have to. Sub panels in corporate buildings cause problems, for houses there should be no issues.

Just an a note about them, a box includes two and you can run up to four together. My setup is that, I have one at my router, another in my bedroom for my HTPC/Bluray player, in my living room for my bluray, Wii, 360, and another in a spare bedroom for a desk for guests. My house is a 1900 sq foot two bedroom and they are spread between the basement and top floor and the signal drops off 14% at worst between them.

Any other questions just shoot me a PM.
